UPDATE THANKSGIVING DAY, 2015

Today were are more grateful than words can possibly express. Because of YOUR HELP, Cupid is with us today, feeling better than he has in weeks and is eagerly awaiting his own feast portion. He lost a leg but gained his life and has his old world back. This would never have been possible without your kind generosity, and we give thanks for you and wish you many blessings in return.

XOXO

Cupid & Christy

Latest Update

Cupid and I want to gratefully thank everyone who so generously gave of their love, funds, time and prayers to give us the incredible blessing of him being alive today and delighting all those who know him. Last Monday we had his usual vet, Dr. Singh, remove his leg because the tumor the specialist removed had come back even larger and was eating away the bones and making him feel sick. X-rays were also done but this time no masses were found on his lungs, so it was a double blessing. Now Cupid is healing and has his old self back, and there are no words for how grateful we are for this, especially today. We give tearful thanks and that you all be blessed many times over in return. XOXO, Cupid & Christy

UPDATE 11-13-15 Cupid had to make an unscheduled trip to the vet today! He continues to eat well and is happy, but the bandage splint he got Wednesday had seepage and a very foul odor so he went back to have them take a look (this isn't something a layman can unwrap and put back on) so he was taken back to the specialist where they discovered that the tumor is now growing through the wound and causing the muscle to decay and waste and an infection is growing. He needs to have his leg amputated ASAP. This is no longer an option and is necessary to save his life. There is a spot of good news for Cupid: Dr. Lange did another x-ray of his lungs to check if there was any change to the spots found when the cancer in the leg was diagnosed and those remain unchanged. That is good news and gives hope. Cupid's regular vet can do the amputation but we still need to raise funds (700-1000 due to size & complexity). God bless you for helping our boy

I have hesitated to send an update that is a non-update, but that's what I'll have to do. At this point there isn't a plan from the specialists other than to continue to compression-splint his leg and do another X-ray of his lungs next week. No biopsy of his lung was done because it was too difficult to access and the tumor was not removed from his wrist for the same reason. We are just in an expensive holding pattern, and I cannot express how much I appreciate your help getting us this far. Cupid still enjoys the activity he is allowed, his appetite is good and he's very interested in living, and safeguarding that for as long as I can is all I can do right now. In another week he will go to his old vet who has treated him for many years and see what their opinion of the two X-rays is and what they suggest. Again, thank you for your compassion and your kindness. It has made a horrific experience a little more bearable.

Cupid is home and his little harem is so happy to have him back. I am just so sorry I don't have a joyful update for you. The CT scans found more masses on his lung, results of biopsies are back next week. I elected to have as much of the leg tumor removed as possible to try to make him more comfortable, but NOT to amputate because of his lung. His leg is splinted to help provide strength to the joint during the healing period. There is still room for hope that things are not as bleak as they seem, and my goal is to preserve as much of his ability to continue to enjoy the life he knows as long as we can. Cupid is resting comfortably and was able to have this specialized care solely due to your generosity. The power of your love for him has made me feel very blessed despite the unhappy news. I am both very grateful and humbled you would do this for my sweet boy. THANK YOU and BLESS YOU

With grateful appreciation for your support we were able to come for surgery this morning. Lucy Liu, who has been his pal for a decade, came along to make it easier for him. I am very grieved to tell you the only update I have at this time is not a good one. On our way home the vet called with shocking news: during the routine pre-op chest X-ray there was a mass on Cupid's lung. They need a CT scan to be able to properly biopsy it so we can know whether this is nothing serious or so serious that his leg is no longer our first concern. All of their scanners at the other locations are down and I am waiting to hear if the biopsy can proceed or not today. PLEASE PRAY THAT THEY CAN GET THE SCANNER WORKING SOON! We cannot move forward without it. Please pray that the lung mass is not metastatic (cancer that has spread to other parts of the body). Cupid is playful and eating well and very interested in being a loving part of the world around him. Please, pleas let it stay that way.
