Project KARE (Karen Alliance for Refugee Education) will deliver school supplies for 2,300+ students in three high schools at Mae Ra Moe Refugee Camp on the Thai/Burma border. In December 2016 we will purchase education material and equipment in Chiang Mai Thailand then travel six hours over land to Mae Ra Moe.

Mae Ra Moe is home to ~18,000 Karen people, an ethnic minority group from rural Burma displaced by 60+ years of military persecution.

Project KARE is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization improving the lives of Karen refugees by providing school supplies and English language training in refugees camps in Thailand and in Karen State in Myanmar.

Three volunteer teachers from Project KARE enjoyed an amazing experience teaching English to students in two schools at Day Bu Noh village in Karen State in Myanmar. We also delivered two trucks filled with school supplies - pens, pencils, notebooks, computers, sports equipment and much more! Thank you to our talented and fun volunteers Ally O'Brien and Vanessa Feeney and a huge thank you all the donors who made it possible to fill the trucks with school supplies! http://projectkare.org/2017/01/1045/ Photo: R. Just four weeks to go ... we leave the day after Thanksgiving and would love to have your help! Last year we registered as a 501c3. Project KARE provides you with a receipt for your tax deductible gift. We all want to know our donations are efficient. It doesn't get better than Project KARE! No less than 100% of your donation goes directly to the purchase of school supplies for Karen refugees. We personally pay all of our own expenses - flights, hotel, over land travel. We take your donations to a big department store in Chiang Mai Thailand and fill one or two 4x4 pickup trucks with notebooks, pens, copy paper, printers, and more. Then ... it's a six hour drive to the refugee camp. If you can find a way to make a donation ... that would be outstanding! You can donate via credit card or paypal on our crowdfunding page or you can hand deliver cash or a check (made out to Project KARE) to us (Ron, Su Baw or Michaely) directly. Tableu dohma !

We are so thankful to our friends at Seattle Learning Academy and Pronuncian for donating ESL pronunciation videos to Project KARE. We will be loading lots of ESL videos on donated laptops and will deliver them to Mae Ra Moe Refugee Camp in December. Since Mae Ra Moe is so remote they seldom have native English speakers on site but now the students in camp will be able to practice their pronunciation all year round with English language videos. Thank you!! Seattle Learning Academy offers one-on-one and corporate classes as well as books and other language learning products. Check out their excellent ESL videos on YouTube too! You can find out more about them at www.seattlelearning.com

Project KARE returns to Mae Ra Moe refugee camp to deliver school supplies to thousands of Karen refugees. Our goal for the early December 2016 trip is to fill two trucks with pens, notebooks, chalk, printers and many more school supplies for more than 2,400 students in three high schools. You can make an enormous difference in the lives of enthusiastic students! Many of us give generously each year to help others but we never know what percentage of that donation actually reaches the people you want to help. When you donate to Project KARE, no less than 100% of your donation is used to purchase school supplies for Karen refugees. How is that possible? We carry your donation directly to stores in Thailand and use that specifically to purchase school supplies. Your $50 donation puts writing notebooks in the hands of more than 200 enthusiastic students! How can you donate? It's so easy and 100% tax deductible! http://www.plumfund.com/charity-fundraising/project-kare-2016

120 students fill a large classroom at the Karen Adventist Academy (KAA) at Mae Ra Moe Refugee Camp. The typical classroom here has about 25 students but this class is so big there are two massive chalkboards in the front so that two teachers can collaborate to address all students at one time.

Project KARE extends a huge "Thank You" to i2 Construction in Denver, CO for donating five laptop computers to help educators in the Karen community. School leaders at Mae Ra Moe refugee camp will use these laptops for curriculum development, education metrics, and more. Mae Ra Moe, on the Thai/Burma border, is home to ~18,000 Karen refugees from Burma. More than 2,000 Karen people have been resettled in the Denver area.
