Support a Bernie Sanders Delegate

Hi. My name is Laura Mia. I'm a lawyer, mother of two boys and Puerto Rican entrepreneur.

I am deeply honored to have been chosen as a Bernie Sanders’ delegate for the Democratic Party Convention that will be hosted in Philadelphia from July 24th to July 29th, 2016. The other 24 Puerto Rican delegates and me need your help to guarantee that the most progressive platform in the history of the Democratic Party is adopted. Furthermore, we have to be there to represent the interests of Puerto Ricans.

Today more than ever we have to participate in one way or another in politics. Our voice has to be heard here in Puerto Rico, in the United States, and even on the Moon if necessary. Puerto Rico is going through the worst economic crisis in its history. Our political leaders have failed us. The establishment has ensured their own interests and not the interests of the people. In the past few months, many doors have been close for us, Puerto Ricans, and to be on the sidelines is not an option.

What Bernie Sanders began as a candidate for the United States presidency has become a strong political movement. In Puerto Rico, the political revolution has mobilized a group of people who had never before participated in politics, including ME. Bernie has spent years fighting for the most marginalized of society and is an ally of Puerto Ricans.

In the United States and in Puerto Rico, the Bernie’s group already controls nearly 50% of the Democratic Party. And it’s not just any group. It‘s a group of people genuinely interested in making a more just and equitable society. Our group does not possess large sums of money, but it has the desire to demand changes in the ways of doing politics. By the way, we already have made great and significant strides.

Within the perception of distress and pessimism that exists in Puerto Rico, I bet hope.

Hola. Mi nombre es Laura Mia, soy abogada, madre de dos chicos y empresaria puertorriqueña.

Tengo el honor de haber sido escogida como delegada de Bernie Sanders para la Convención del Partido Demócrata que será en Filadelfia del 24 al 29 de julio. Los demás 24 delegados puertorriqueños y yo necesitamos su ayuda para estar allí vigilando que se apruebe la plataforma más progresista en la historia de este partido. Y estaremos allí velando por los intereses de los puertorriqueños.

Hoy más que nunca tenemos que insertarnos de una forma u otra en la política. Tenemos que hacer sentir nuestra voz aquí en Puerto Rico, en Estados Unidos y hasta en la Luna si es necesario. Puerto Rico está pasando por la peor crisis económica de su historia. Nuestros líderes políticos nos han fallado. El establishment lo que ha hecho es velar por sus propios intereses y no por los intereses de todos los puertorriqueños. En estos últimos meses a los puertorriqueños se nos han cerrado muchas puertas y no es opción quedarnos al margen.

Lo que Bernie Sanders comenzó como una candidatura a la presidencia de Estados Unidos se ha convertido en un fuerte movimiento político. En Puerto Rico ha movilizado a un grupo de personas que nunca antes habíamos participado en la política. Bernie lleva años luchando por los más marginados de la sociedad y es un aliado de los puertorriqueños.

En Estados Unidos y en Puerto Rico, el grupo de Bernie ya controla casi el 50% del Partido Demócrata. Y no es cualquier grupo. Es un grupo de personas genuinamente interesadas en hacer de la sociedad una más justa y equitativa. Nuestro grupo no cuenta con grandes sumas de dinero, pero sí con la voluntad de exigir cambios en las formas de hacer política. Por cierto, ya lo hemos conseguido y de qué manera.

Dentro del cuadro de desasosiego y de pesimismo que existe en Puerto Rico, yo apuesto a la esperanza.
