Our beloved Adriel has been in the hospital since June 12th after suffering a seizure. After many tests, the Dr's confirmed she has a brain tumor. Adriel is scheduled for surgery on June 15th, which will be followed by 3-5 days of recovery in the hospital.

We are raising funds to help with her medical expenses, lost wages and family support. We want to make this process as painless as possible for Adriel, Garin, Peyton and Hunter. Let's come together as family and friends to support Adriel's fight towards a full recovery.

Thank you for your support!

Latest Update

Yesterday I was at UCSF for a follow-up MRI and to meet in-person with the neuro-oncologist. I can say with some certainty that MRIs are just the worst... and I get to have one every 3 months. My tumor went from the size of a lime to about the size of a small olive, which is good news. I have a few treatment options, and I need to decide in the next few weeks what I want to do. It looks like I can avoid radiation (I get to keep my hair!), however I will need to undergo chemo once a month for a year, potentially more. The oncologist warned me to take this seriously, and not to miss any treatments. So that's what I intend to do. I'm including a photo we took at the Nevada County Fair this year, it was HOT and tiring, but it felt good to feel almost normal for a day, and the boys had a blast.

Always on my thoughts my dear Adriel. Yes you are looking good, be tough and my best to you. Thanks to Renee for keeping us posted.

The hardest part of my recovery so far has been looking "normal". They didn't shave my head for surgery. I don't look sick. I even talk pretty well. So when people see me, they are pleasantly surprised. But the part that isn't visible is what takes the longest to heal. I'm still exhausted after about an hour of conversation. I read my kids stories at night and trip over simple words. I have small seizures throughout the day, mostly when I'm overly tired. I struggle to pronounce things properly. I still can't feel the right side of my face, so eating is super challenging. I finally met with the neurologist last Friday and even he was like "you look great!", sigh. Over the course of our conversation, he was able to understand the less noticeable challenges I face. He recommended I meet with a speech therapist, and indicated that sometimes it takes up to 6 months to regain feeling in the face after a surgery like mine. So now I just wait and rest, like any normal person.

I totally understand. My sister also shares the same frustrations. She cried when I read her your post. We are praying for you! Hugs! -Andrea

Thanks for the very insightful update sweetie. I think of you everyday and continue to send you love and healing. Daily mantra: patience -- as eventually the stuff people can't see that you experience will get better with each day. ❌💕⭕️

This year, celebrating the fourth of July was a bit different. We went to Jody's house (my sister in law) and the boys got to swim a little, even I got in the water and enjoyed the sun! I get tired so easily, so just this bit of celebrating meant I was ready for a nap. Quite literally I'm like a newborn baby. Eat, sleep, repeat. It felt good to be out of the house, even for a little while. I don't quite know yet what our new normal will look like, so for now, we just focus on the positive, enjoy all the little things, and savor each day, hour, and minute as a gift. Tomorrow we meet with the neurologist and talk about the overall health of my brain and what I do from here on out to monitor and improve things like speech and facial expression. Hugs to all --Adriel

Great photo sweetie. Just keep resting it's the best healers. ⭕️💕❌ Aunt Alex

I got my staples out today, so I feel a little less like Frankenstein, and more like a real human being. I was thoroughly exhausted by the trip to San Francisco, so I know I'm still on the road to recovery for sure, but making slow and steady progress each day. I am in the process of trying to start a blog to keep everyone up to date with my recovery. More on that soon. For now, here is a picture of me relaxing a little at the pool yesterday. I really love being in the water, so that made me very happy indeed. Big hugs to everyone.

Warms my heart to know you are "steady-as-she-goes". Love you lots Adry..😃 Auntie

Day 14. I'm home. I'm alive. I'm so tired all time time. I'm resting, recuperating, thinking. Let me get the preliminary oncology results on the table. I have been diagnosed with an Oligodendroglioma, Level 2 brain tumor. Yes it is cancer, low grade and treatable, however what that treatment will be remains unknown and undecided at this moment. I will go to meet with the oncologist in about 9 weeks where we can discuss more in depth exactly what I do to monitor, treat and live with brain cancer. I am hopeful, optimistic, and determined to live as normally as possible. A lot has happened in the last 14 days, and my biggest goals these days is trying to talk without drooling involuntarily and stuttering over my words. This is very hard for me as most of you can guess. I am used to talking fast and coherently, and at the moment, that is just not the way my brain is working. I am overwhelmed and humbled by your love and support and will keep you all updated.

Adriel came home from the hospital on Sunday to her two happy boys. She is continuing to recover well, getting lots of rest. Her dog, Luna, won't leave her side.

In less than 24 hrs after the surgery Adriel has been moved from the neuro ICU to the stepdown unit on her path to going home by Monday. She has improved nicely in speech and physical ability and has been walking and talking and smiling for the doctors. She is very grateful for all the prayers and well wishing and would love to thank all of you individually some day. The journey is still far from over but she is already off to a great start and it will be a lot easier with the help you all have provided by being the great friends and family you are! -Garin

Garin- So glad to hear there is healing taking place. Thank you for these updates and Adriel is in all of our thoughts and prayers as well as you and your boys. 💗💗💗

Adriel is recovering well, but for the first 24 hours, we need to limit visitors to family/close friends only and even then just a brief visit. She is very tired and needs her rest. If you are thinking of visiting, you might want to wait until tomorrow or Saturday. Thanks!

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry to hear this but also glAd to hear the surgery was a success! I'm sending deep thoughts prayers to Adreil! And pray that God will comfort her in all ways ! Love, Cynthia

Adriel is out of surgery and in recovery. The surgery went well. She was awake the whole 4.5hrs and gave a smile as she was sent to post-op. She may have speech issues for a bit but that is normal for where the tumor was.
