On Monday, April 10th, Jonathan stepped out from his home to get his phone charger from his brother’s car….NOW he is paralyzed from the chest down.
As Jonathan was sitting in the car searching for the charger, a van pulled up across the street and a young man emerged and without reason, warning or provocation, 6-8 shots tore into the night’s silence. As the boom of a gunshots echoed Jonathan felt a sudden pain in his back, but when he tried to get out of his car and run, he couldn’t move his feet. He called his brother on his cell to come help and in that instant, Jonathan and his family’s life would be changed forever.
Jonathan is now paralyzed from the chest down. This was devastating news for an adventurous, physically active, avid Hawks fan, who also coached kids hockey. Jonathan’s love of school is only superseded by his love for his family and friends; His dreams and aspirations of going to college in the Fall to study broadcast communications have been shattered by a single bullet. Jonathan’s dream has been replaced, with daily treatments, appointments and ongoing intensive physical and occupational therapies to overcome the obstacles of being paralyzed.
While the news hit him and his family hard, Jonathan has blown us all away with the way he is handling his situation. His personality is shining through and he has responded with amazing positivity and hope.
The only thing we know for certain is that the next 24 months is critical for his recovery and Jonathan will be working very hard with physiotherapists and rehabilitation specialists to achieve the best results in becoming as self sufficient and independent as possible under his new circumstances
The financial burden is going to be considerable combined with the need for continuing medical care, equipment, and changes to accommodate him at home—this hard-working family, having always supported themselves, now need your help.
Please find it in your heart to give to this very unfortunate situation. Helping financially will enable him to live as joyously as possible with the hand he has been dealt. His family hopes to keep some semblance of normalcy for Jonathan as he goes through all of this and Jonathan is striving to demonstrate to others all that can be done and accomplished, no matter what.
We are deeply grateful for any financial help that you can offer..
Please keep Jonathan and his family in your prayers.

If you have not heard of this amazing Payton graduate, and current DePaul student, Jonathon Annick, please take a minute and look into his story. It is humbling.
