**Update 7/17/14** Hi All, Thank you SO much for all of your contributions - I am completely overwhelmed by the support and love you've shown. I was not expecting to raise so much in such a short time and was prepared to only afford one brick! Thanks to you, I think that if I get a few more contributions, I can get one brick each for Meg, Joe and Shawn with some funds to spare for their individual charities (American Heart Association for Meg, The Kuykenstrong Foundation for Shawn, and a "to be determined by the Petersons" designation for Joe). Therefore I've upped my goal in hope that each will have their own spot on a very important DC building. In the coming days I'll be sharing some stories regarding each of these amazing friends. I hope you'll join me in remembering them too!
Dear Friends, I’ll be turning 31 at the end of the month. I usually don’t ask outright for things for my birthday, but this year I’d really like to ask something of you all. As I turned 30, I was deeply saddened by the loss of my friends Meg and Joe. I was also hit hard when my friend Shawn informed me of his terminal cancer, a battle he lost in March. I miss these people very much, words can’t convey it enough – they’ve made me who I am, especially while living in DC. So, this year, in their memory, I’d like to buy a brick with their names inscribed on it for SOME’s (So Others Might Eat) capital campaign. SOME helps DC’s underserved population and are creating a wonderful “hub” where Washingtonians will have access to affordable housing, job training and health care. If you knew these friends, would you help me buy a brick by contributing $10? The brick costs $250. Any extra contributions beyond this will be sent in their names to the organizations their families had mentioned during their memorials. Thank you so much for considering this for my birthday.
