Ian's going to be a teacher in DC!

My fiancé Ian got a job offer to teach General Science in Washington, DC through The New Teacher Project! TNTP is similar to Teach for America but focused in cities and provides recent grads with the training and certification necessary to be a teacher. (Read more details in the Updates section.)

I believe he would be an amazing teacher in the inner city and want to support him in this new and exciting stage of his life. If you agree with me, please help Ian's plans for the future become a reality! And if you’re not in a place to support financially, we value prayers and well wishes just as much.

Thank you so much for your support!

Latest Update

Ian will be moving down to D.C. in mid-June to start his training, but because TNTP is a nonprofit, he doesn’t start getting paid until he starts work during the regular school year, with the paycheck coming through the school district. He’ll only have been a postgrad for a little over a month by the time he needs to relocate, and the financial situation of moving and living in D.C. for three months without a paycheck is difficult to say the least. To be completely transparent, right now a conservative estimate of how much he’ll need for the first three months is $3,500. Later on, he’ll also need to pay for the training, which is $4,700.

Ian has felt that God is calling him to be a teacher ever since sophomore year, when he made the drastic move of changing his major from Computer Science & Engineering to a double major in Physics and Philosophy. The past summer, he had the chance to work with Hartford City Mission running Camp Noah, a day camp for elementary school students in the north end of Hartford, and that really solidified his calling for him. (See one of the pictures of him with other HCM interns!) He wants to teach in inner city areas because he believes education plays a huge role in a child’s future, and he doesn't believe where you live should be a restriction on the quality of education that you receive.
