Aria Hope Kartchner, arrived to us earlier than expected, being delivered at only 27 weeks. She weighed all of 1lbs 6oz, and measured in at exactly 12 inches. She'll be in the NICU for the foreseeable future, meaning a long next couple months for mom and dad.

Mom and Dad had no indication that she would be so early, so their baby preparations had barely begun. Once they knew she would be coming, there had no chance to prepare. Mommy spent 12 days in the hospital being treated for preeclampsia, and its long last effects. Doctors had to monitor her to make sure she was going to be okay.

Thank you so much for helping us save our lovely little girl. She needs all the thoughts, prayers and thoughts there are to offer.

Latest Update

Our sweet Aria is a growing little girl. She's approaching the 5lbs mark and doing fantastic. She is on the lowest flow canula, and on only .25lpm flow rate at 100% oxygen. Its more or less, a reminder for her to breathe. She isn't in clothes yet, as the doctor wants to see her gain more weight consistently before they put her in an open crib. Overall our little miracle continues to bring so much hope into our lives as we watch her grow. Thank you to all of you for your thoughts, prayers and contributions to her cause. We appreciate you so much.

Our little Aria just continues to blossom in front of our eyes! As of Wednesday, she had doubled her weight to 2lbs 12 oz, and last night weighed in at 2lbs 13oz. She's gaining pretty consistently around 1oz/day. SO BIG NOW!!! All the nurses that take care of her are just in shock at how big she is, in comparison to where she's come from. Her oxygen requirements continue to fall into the 25-28% range, which is just fantastic. Her LPM requirements are also falling, as we work towards 3LPM, which is when she can begin breastfeeding. AS of yesterday, she was at 5LPM. Mom is getting prepped to go back to work in a couple weeks, and is recovering very nicely.

Aria has now been with us for over 1 month! Isn't that just crazy to think about? She also continues to grow, and be a super trooper in the NICU. She now weighs in at 2 lbs 3oz, and just over 13 inches long. They've been able to dramatically drop her oxygen requirements, and has recently been in the high 20's the last few days. As reference, we adults breath about 20-23% oxygen. Aria was in the 26-29% range. She's doing so great! Her brain hemorrhage that was a level 2/3 when she was born, has all but dissipated according to doctors. We continue to receive great news for our fighting little bundle of Hope! Thank you for your support. It does not go unnoticed.

Our sweet little Aria is already 3 weeks old, and pushing the 2 pound barrier. As of yesterday, she was 1 lbs 13 oz. She's a growing machine. Her breathing continues to be the biggest concern. She hasn't been able to ween off the of the CPAP machine yet because her oxygen levels in her blood aren't good enough. Her blood count however has increased, and that's helping postpone a blood transfusion, which is good news. We want her to create her own, and get through this herself. She is starting to open her eyes, which is so stinking adorable! She's got obvious sensitivity to light, which means they are functioning well too!!! We continue to go day by day full of Hope and love for our miracle. Aria is strong, and we know she'll get through this.

Jennifer is finally home, after 12 long days in the hospital. She still has a long road to her own recovery. Aria remains in pretty good condition, with pretty average preemie symptoms. She has a level 2 hemorrhage in her brain, but doctors don't seem to be that concerned that it could develop into something more serious. However, we aren't out of the woods yet. She was briefly taken off the ventilator and the CPap (bubble machine that helps give her oxygen), had to be placed back on the CPap two days ago. Jennifer and I have both gotten to hold her, 1 week after we were blessed to have come into our lives. Its a tender moment to hold our child, and even more so considering how fragile and tiny she is. She is our little beacon of Hope (her middle name for a purpose).

Jennifer has been in the hospital since last Friday January 16, with gestational hypertension, and borderline pre-eclampsia. After a crazy weekend where we thought we were going to have to delivery, we received good news that her BP's were more manageable, and no delivery was necessary. She is remaining in the hospital until further notice however. If she does get to come home, it would be on a bed rest order in all likelihood.
