As many of you probably know, Coach Riden and his wife, Heather, are expecting a new addition to the Riden family. Baby Girl Riden is scheduled to make her arrival in November. Although Coach Riden and Heather would almost assuredly be opposed to the idea of a baby shower being thrown in their honor, I am confident that the Deer Creek Cross Country (DCXC) family would relish the opportunity to support the Ridens and their new little one. A little covert detective work has revealed that the Ridens do not really need the things that would typically be considered as traditional baby shower gifts. They are able to use the swings, infant car seats, bottles, toys, blankets, changing table, etc. that they have used with Titus and Emmett. There will, however, be several expenses that come along with the birth and care of a new baby. With that in mind, a cash gift is likely to be the most helpful way to offset the costs of hospital and doctor bills, formula, diapers, etc. This Plumfund Crowdfunding site has been established for Deer Creek Cross Country family members to donate money to contribute to the cash gift provided to the Riden family.
If you do not feel comfortable contributing to the Plumfund Crowdfunding site, please contact me (jace.wolfe@heartsforhearing.org), and we can arrange another method to deliver your contribution.
The exact date of the Riden baby shower has not yet been set but will likely occur at team dinner during the first or second week of October. The details of the first two meets in October have not been firmly established. Once we know when team dinner will occur, we will send an invitation for the shower. The cash gift will be presented to Coach and Heather, and there will be decorations and most likely some type of pre-race, nutritional snack that is pre-approved by coach.
Again, Coach Riden and Heather are unaware of our efforts to shower their upcoming little girl. If they catch wind of it, they would probably insist we scrap the idea. With that said, this is just too good of an opportunity for the DCXC family to acknowledge the countless sacrifices the Riden family makes for our kids and the exceptionally positive impact they make on the lives of the student athletes they are called to serve. You can probably count the number of coaches on one hand who selflessly give up their time to oversee 6:00 am practices and then another session in the afternoon (rain or shine). When you add in summer camps, Tuesday night devotions, out-of-state races, and the overall effort to encourage each DCXC participant to reach her/his full potential not only as an athlete but also as a young adult, I believe we are fortunate to have the best coach for any sport throughout all of the state. Please consider expressing your appreciation to the Riden family by generously contributing to their baby shower fund. Please let me know if you have any questions.
My very best,
Jace Wolfe
