Barbara Wynne turns 85 this summer. Let's Give Her the Gift of a Lifetime!
$8.5K for 85 Years!
Chances are if you ever lived in Indianapolis and love tennis, you or your children (or both) are among the 50,000 kids coached by Indy tennis icon Barbara Wynne during her 54-year (and counting!) career. If so, you've also heard her encouraging you with a "Bravo!," a hug and the words "I love you, love you!"
BB, as she is affectionately known, has devoted her life to the development and education of youth through the love of tennis and the life skills it teaches. Stay tuned for an upcoming update listing just a few of her myriad of honors and accomplishments.
In 1969, along with her dear friend, Arthur Ashe, BB founded the Indianapolis chapter of the National Junior Tennis League ("NJTL"), making the joy of tennis available to underprivileged children in the community.
In 1964, BB propelled the expansion of youth tennis in Greater Indianapolis by founding the still thriving Indianapolis Community Tennis Program ("ICTP"). The ICTP operates at the multi-million dollar facility named in her honor. The Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center, an impressive 34 outdoor court facility, is located on the grounds of North Central High School.
To crown her life's work and fill a community need for indoor courts, Mrs. Wynne hopes to add a state-of-the-art, 8-court Indoor Tennis Facility to the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center. Once complete, the Indoor Tennis Facility and 34 existing outdoor courts will serve as (i) a low-cost public community resource for all tennis enthusiasts and inner-city youth charities like NJTL, (ii) a full-service high-school, college and USTA tournament site and (iii) a USTA Regional High-Performance Training Center.
BREAKING NEWS! The 501(c)(3) arm of the Indianapolis Community Tennis Program has already raised over 60% of the cost to build The Indoor Tennis Facility and development planning with the school district is now underway!
