Make Your Own!
Started by: Joseph Hicks
Early in the process of wedding planning, Joe suggested that we try to incorporate charity to our wedding celebrations. After all, we have so much already – our health, our family and friends, and very soon a loving husband and wife!
To honor the life and memory of Joe’s departed grandmother, Norma Hicks, we’ve chosen to accept donations to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (www.curealz.org) as wedding gifts. The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund is a non-profit organization that supports research to cure Alzheimer's disease, a disease that Norma, herself, battled late in her life.
Even when spending a short amount of time with Joe’s family, it’s likely that someone will bring up a story or re-live a favorite memory about Norma. One frequently shared memory is of Norma carefully building her reserve of the grandchildren’s Christmas gifts from a very early time each year—sometimes collecting children’s wish lists as early as summertime.
It is clear that her manner of showering gifts was one of her cherished ways to express love and affection for her family.
We can think of no better way to remember Norma Hicks (and her love of gift-giving!) during our wedding time than by donating some of the generous gifts we receive towards researching a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
We purposely fixed a low "goal" so no one feels burdened to contribute; we simply wanted to make this available in lieu of any gift you may be generously considering to impart. Thank you, in advance, for any and all generosity!
With Love,
Jina & Joe
