We're raising funds for JVDI (jointvillages.wordpress.com) to execute 2 major ongoing projects:
1) Food drive for the underprivileged in our partner communities. The war in Ukraine has caused food and commodity prices to inflate by up to 200% in Zomba, Malawi. JVDI will use donated funds to purchase non-perishable basic commodities (salt, sugar, maize, other grains) for distribution as prices continue to rise.
2) Tree planting drive. Tree planting has been proven to reduce flooding and erosion, and to provide additional benefits such as water conservation, and the provisioning of firewood and food resources for communities. Over the next few years, our goal is to cover 505 hectares of degraded area along rivers and hillsides with tree seedlings, in keeping with the desires of our partner communities. Villagers are experienced with the process of land clearing, tree planting and maintenance. Donations will be used to purchase tree seedlings, materials, and labour for tree planting and maintenance.
