ONLY NATIONALLY ACCREDITED HOME IN THE CAROLINAS FOR MINOR GIRLS RESCUED FROM SEX TRAFFICKING
The Hope House “safe house” and residential aftercare facility is the only accredited home in the Carolinas for young girl victims being rescued from sex trafficking. We are nationally accredited through CARF (Commission On Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), licensed by the Department of Social Services and adheres to the highest standards of trauma informed care. It is one of only a handful of licensed homes for minor victims of sex trafficking in the country. Hope House provides food, clothing, shelter and a whole lot more in an undisclosed safe house location just outside of Charlotte NC.
MISSION & VISION
OEWM seeks to prevent females from falling victim to sex trafficking, offer assistance to those still trapped, and restore those that have survived by offering HOPE, empowerment, and a brighter future. Victims of sex trafficking receive comprehensive support services and a private school education at Hope House to help each girl move beyond the pains of her past, renew her strength through God’s love and a supportive community, and begin to soar with new hope for her future. Other Hope House services include weekly individual/group therapy through a licensed counselor, equine and art therapy, and life-skills training.
IMMEDIATE PRIORITY - Doors Open/Lights On
OEWM faces a temporary cash-flow crisis that must be corrected immediately. Hope House is a rare resource - one of the few safe houses in the country that is nationally accredited and available to serve girls ages 12-17 who are victims of sex trafficking. Currently available funds will be depleted by early October, which could cause Hope House to close, temporarily or permanently. The annual operating budget for the organization is approximately $550,000. To date, approximately $250,000 has been raised. This includes unpaid pledges through year end. An additional $300,000 is needed to keep this nationally accredited safe house operational and available to support young girls who have been victimized. Costs include the round-the-clock residential crisis intervention and aftercare services, private school, individual and group counseling, and enrichment programs that help girls reintegrate into the community and enjoy “normal” childhood experiences such as bowling, museums, parks, etc.
THE FUTURE – ONE LIFE AT A TIME
Local and national leaders in the world of human trafficking of minors tell us that the need is great and there is a need for more beds at Hope House, a network of well-trained foster families equipped to meet the unique needs of minor victims of sex trafficking, and more prevention/intervention with potential victims and potential predators.
Once stabilized, OEWM has a three part plan:
PART 1 – EXPANSION: The organization has a vision to expand its impact by increasing the number of girls served in the residential setting. Land has already been cleared on the six acre grounds and can easily accommodate 2 more homes or “wing-like” expansion of the existing home. Local, state and national authorities indicate a need for significant growth in the number of available beds for pre-teen and teen girls.
PART 2 – PLACEMENT: Girls under age 12 and girls needing a long term placement may be best served through a network of therapeutic foster care homes with highly qualified “trauma informed care” parents. 100% of girls served suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Each girl has a unique set of needs. Even when families have been trained and approved by DSS, they are not prepared to meet the unique needs of victims of sex trafficking. We believe that the support of strong, well-trained families can play an important role in helping girls heal and move forward through their journey, and build confidence in her identity, strength, and ability to thrive throughout her lifetime.
PART 3 – PREVENTION: Prevention is critical. Youth 4 Abolition is an excellent prevention curriculum developed by On Eagles Wings Ministries to enable local churches and youth groups to learn, mentor their peers, serve and become abolitionists to help end minor sex trafficking. Girls must know their worth and recognize the signs of grooming by predators, and boys must understand their God-given role as protector rather than predator and recognize the sinister cultural desensitization that is rampant in today’s world. Spearheaded by national Young Professionals Board, OEWM plans to systematically expand the free Youth 4 Abolition program and develop Youth 4 Abolition chapters across the country.
