Started by: Sabrina Leong
The Story:
Sabrina learned to shoot a bow at UC Berkeley in Fall of 2013. Though she was able to spend only limited time on the field in her first few weeks, it was quickly apparent to coaches and instructors that she possessed an incredible talent for archery. In the months that followed, Sabrina adjusted her schedule to make room for more practice hours, demonstrating that she also possessed the dedication necessary to develop that talent. She shot in the compound division that year, perhaps the most competitive division available in collegiate archery, and brought home several medals from her first competition season - a rare accomplishment for new archers.
In 2014, Sabrina switched from the compound bow to the recurve. It was with the recurve that she was able to let the full extent of her abilities shine, and by the end of her second season she had earned her title as an All-American archer (top 10 collegiate in the United States) as well as a spot on the team representing the United States at the prestigious World University Games in Korea. She represented both herself and her country well, then rounded out the year by participating in her first ever Olympic Trials. Following last year’s successful first run of the USAT circuit, she is sitting in 9th place among senior women, and is now headed to the World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.
The Goal:
The next step for Sabrina is to augment her USAT tournaments with international experience. The World Cup in Turkey will allow her to experience international senior competition firsthand and learn what to expect at major events in the future. This is a rare opportunity for all but the highest ranked USAT shooters, so it is imperative that Sabrina take advantage of it. Unfortunately the trip is not funded by USA Archery! We are asking for your help to get Sabrina to Turkey so that she can represent our country on the international stage.
Expenses:
The cost breakdown for Turkey will be as follows:
Flight: $1606
Baggage: $130
Hotel: $920
Reg: $150
Transportation: $40
Fees: $50
Paypal fee: 3.1% ($90)
Plumfund fee: 2.8% ($82)
This is in addition to wages lost as Sabrina travels to this event. These are known costs already set in stone, so we know that we are asking for just as much as Sabrina needs to make this a reality. Thank you for your support!
