Several tragic events within a short time frame have plagued our nation. It seems we can barely catch our breath when another horrific story unfolds and with each new page, more members of our FNF family are affected. The wildfires raging throughout Northern California that began on October 8th have been a devastating event for so many, including members of our FNF family. Over 220,000 acres have burned throughout the region. Areas that were once rich and lush have been reduced to ash. Authorities say more than 3,500 buildings, including at least 1,500 homes, have been destroyed. At last count, over 20,000 residents have been forced to evacuate from eight different counties. Unfortunately, at least 40 people have lost their lives and still over 170 are still listed as missing in Sonoma County alone. These numbers fluctuate as new information comes to light. For neighboring areas throughout the state, poor air quality caused by the smoke from the fires has forced the closure of schools and business and many areas have asked residents to limit their outdoor activity.

We are still gathering details on how deeply our nearly 200 co-workers in the area of the fires have been affected. We are currently aware of at least 4 employees whose homes were totally destroyed in the fires, with 3 others suffering significant damage to their homes. Additionally, we understand that approximately 50% of our co-workers were displaced by the evacuations, with at least 10 of those families still in shelters, or alternative temporary housing.
