We are all musical beings!

Our propensity for making music is universal, and it’s one of the uniquely human ways that we express ourselves, throughout every stage of our lives. Making music uses every part of who we are--our bodies, memory, emotions, imagination, breath, voice, heart and soul. What other learned life skill can make such a claim?

"I believe that Music Together® has been responsible for some of the greatest, most amazing development in my child’s life. We have been coming since he was 5 months old. At 2 1/2, he sings concerts for everyone who comes into our house, and instead of reading books before bed, he sings songs. The other night, we were all sitting around a campfire, and my child looked up at the sky and started singing "Twinkle twinkle little star" while tapping his foot. Seconds later, all of us were singing together, and my child had the most precious look on his face - like he was feeling the magic of music. To say that music is inside this kid is an understatement. And it is all because of Music Together. " (Family scholarship recipient)

Music Together® recognizes that all children are musical and that every child needs a stimulating, supportive music environment to achieve basic competence in the wonderful human capacity for music making.

"We noticed a real increase in singing/dancing after we started taking MT. I love hearing my child just spontaneously burst into song -- it's so joyful! All week she talks about class and her teacher. I think it’s important to get her involved in music early on. We are a musical family and MT class is the solid beginning of her musical journey!” (Family scholarship recipient)

Our scholarship program supports those in need who want to make the commitment to providing rich musical development opportunities for their families. Donate to Music Together of Portland’s scholarship fund!

"We have researched many classes and find MT to be an extremely high quality program—my child has listened to several cd's and is so charmed and instantly engaged--she has told us in so many ways by her own response to the music, rhythms, chants, and movement that she is eager for this experience. We want to model the social experience of making and participating in music as a community to our child so that she develops a comfortable image, identity and relationship within music making that is playful, relational and provides a diverse model to her (in the range of responses by the adults and children in her classes).” (Family scholarship recipient)

Music Together of Portland is committed to helping all families rediscover the pleasure and educational value of informal musical experiences. With more families facing financial challenges, the number of scholarship requests have increased while donations have decreased. Donations from generous individuals like yourself help every child and family in financial need celebrate their musical birthright and discover their potential to be music makers.

"Music for both of us as parents is what inspires and feeds our spirits on a daily basis. We were fortunate to both grow up with music in our lives and believe that early exposure to music is a basic human right and a cornerstone for human growth, imagination, creativity, and expression. Music is where the spirit is nurtured and takes wing. Exposing and involving children to music is one of our culture's greatest needs--if my child can spread her love of music in the world to others, it is a gift we want to nurture and pass on." (Family scholarship recipient)
