I am a recipient of a liver transplant. Two years ago I was dying and close to death when I had the good fortune of the donation of an organ that literally saved my life. I vowed to the family of the donor that I would pay the grace I received forward.
I have been doing that in many ways, including walking for the Ntl. Liver Foundation and Donate Life to obtain funds to keep these great organizations helping people with liver disease and people who need a donated organ to live.
Last year I started volunteering at UCLA Ronald Regan Hospitals. Through their Bed Buddy program I visit patients on the transplant unit and ICU who are very sick and waiting for a transplant or who are recovering from the surgery. I visit and talk with them and as someone who has been in their same place, bring them hope that they too will function independently again.
I live over an hour from UCLA. I don't mind the drive but because I live on Social Security solely, the added cost to my monthly budget has become difficult. I have cut down on going sometime to save money. I hate doing this.
Can you help me with a few dollars so that I can consistent pay it forward and bring hope to these very sick patients?
