Make Your Own!
Started by: Phyllis Ledbetter
Charles F. Ledbetter (pictured), shared his time and skill as a Brick Mason to teach many African American men the brick laying trade. He was trained by a former Mason, Mr. Will Jones. According to the unwritten code of gratitude, he gave to others what had been given to him.
In a similar way, a team of artists have created an apprenticeship program - Business Kinetics (BK) – to train men of color in creative entrepreneurship. BK is one approach to answering a desperate need for employment among men of color who face the fall out of incarcerations and low academic achievement. We are asking you to help us by supporting (BK) with a contribution of $10. Or more. You will partner with us to be a solution to a problem that affects families, communities and the nation.
BK continues the tradition of apprenticeship training of my father and other skilled tradesmen during a time of segregation in American. Neighbor helping neighbor eliminated much of the fallout of slavery and enabled men to take care of their families, educate their children become home owners and improve the lot of the entire Black community.
We ask your support of at least $10. However, any amount, smaller or larger, contributes to the goal and is, therefore, greatly appreciated. You may give online or mail your contribution directly to Rehoboth Institute of the Arts, General Delivery Neptune PO, Neptune Boulevard, Neptune, NJ 07753
