On April 12, Easter Sunday, tornados and devastating winds & rains ripped through Mississippi. My mother’s home was a part of that damage. A one hundred plus year old tree fell on it. Most fortunately she nor anyone else was in the house. My mother had just been in the hospital and taken to a nursing home rehab center just days before the tornado. Thankful for the fact that is only material loss but the reality of the massive undertaking of what lies ahead is beyond what i can even understand at this time.
As i began planning going HOME it quickly became clear that taking this on in the midst of a pandemic Is a whole new beast. The places that i would have always stayed with family and friends are no longer an option and the help i would have thought i may have hoped i could receive from loved ones can no longer be assumed because of the new protocols of social distancing etc.
One concrete way people have offered to help is through a fundraiser and encouraged me to make one. Asking for money brings up all kinds of uncomfortable feelings esp now in these times when pay cuts and job losses (including my own Loss of employment) are the new norm. Thank you to all y’all who have so graciously offered financial support and deepest appreciation to all y’all who are taking the time to read this and offer your love and support in a myriad of other ways. I’m feeling quite vulnerable and humbled in this process, while alsoexperiencing a level of gratitude that i have never known.
