In October, 2015, a few days after my 8 year old granddaughter Brooke became sick with Strep, she began to have a severe onset of OCD, anxiety, paranoia, intrusive thoughts and Tourette syndrome. The diagnosis was an illness known as P.A.N.D.A.S. (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep). Her doctor had strong suspicions that Brooke was being exposed to toxic mold which could have caused her Strep. A toxic mold air quality test was performed on their newly built home. Brooke’s mycotoxin urinalysis indicated she had three times the amount of toxic mold that one should have in their system. Two days later, the air quality testing on the house revealed extremely high levels of toxic mold. My son Devin and his wife Julia were left with no choice but to leave their home immediately.

So here they are, 10 months later since they were forced to move out of their uninhabitable home leaving ALL of their personal belongings behind, while still fighting their daughter’s on-going IVIG treatment for P.A.N.D.A.S. (each treatment is NOT covered by their health insurance and extremely expensive) through a specialist in Dallas ( 8 hours RT), and renting an apartment while trying to hold onto their house financially.

Your support is their last resort. We thank you in advance for your contribution!!

Latest Update

Happy New Year From My Family to Yours. We have welcomed in the new year with continued faith, hope and greater determination. Since the last update, we have seen a few little changes in Brooke’s symptoms. As little as the changes may be, it is definitely a sign that the IVIG treatment IS working (not at the pace we’d like, but it’s working). Within a few months and after additional blood work, we hope to learn more about the affect of IVIG on Brooke and if necessary, further treatment options. Hugs Norma

Just got back from visiting with Brooke and her family. Finally, after remediation of the house, they are finally back home. After a year, their spirits appear to be lifted since the move. Staying positive! Brooke's Strep antibodies remain status quo. We will wait a couple of months before another blood work because final results of IVIG treatment is known to take months and for some years. On a positive note, Brooke's symptoms of Tourette and paranoia have diminished quite a bit. To hear her laughing was priceless. Praying that it is not just a temporary fix. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Celebrate the happiness that FRIENDS are always giving, make every day a holiday and celebrate just LIVING! Hugs to all

Dear Norma and Gary, I want you to know that I have found a new reason to follow my Jewish upbringing, and that is to say special prayers during Sabbath services that call for the healing of people I know. I have been doing this for Brooke. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. It was so important to me to reconnect with you after so many years and the different paths we followed. 2055 St. Raymond Ave. will always be in my heart, and especially Apartment 3A! Love you guys and all the best to not just Brooke, but the entire family.

I am sooooo happy to hear this great news! We are praying and believing for the miraculous in Brooke's health! ๐Ÿ™โคXoxoxo.

There is hope for Brooke. However, Health Insurance will not cover the cost of her IVIG treatments which are quite expensive! SHAME ON THEM! See article just published. ******************************** PANDAS IVIG Study Published, October, 2016 New IVIG study shows >60% mean reduction in symptoms for PANDAS patients. A new paper submitted to the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry describes the outcome of the NIMH double-blind placebo controlled study of IVIG for treatment of symptoms in children who met the criteria of PANDAS. While the study has many interesting findings, the most significant is that children who had prophylactic antibiotics followed by an open-label IVIG had a >60% mean reduction in CYBOCS score. These symptom improvements were sustained through follow up at 6 months.

October is finally here...it seems like forever since Brooke's last blood work. This month, Brooke will have another blood work done to see if her Strep antibodies continue to decrease since the first IVIG treatment. Although there was a decrease after the first treatment, it was still at a high level. Her Strep antibodies is what causes the PANDAS. As long as her Strep antibodies remain high, her symptoms will continue to come and go. There are so many things her little body is dealing with, her immune system and PANDAS. All we can do is pray for positive results before the end of this month. Stay tuned.... Hugs to all

So happy to hear Brooke's numbers are dropping. Prayers for continued progress.

Brooke had lab work done after her first IVIG treatment. The results were just received and indicate that her immunodeficiency for her IgG immunoglobulin are all now within the normal range for her age. Brooke’s doctor explained that he needs to retest those levels again in October to make sure they do not drop. The strep antibodies that have been extremely high since last October, have decreased slightly. However, while they remain high, the slight decrease resulted from her first round of IVIG (this is a good sign). The doctor explained we are moving in the right direction with IVIG treatments but he cannot put a time frame as to when he will see those strep antibodies within normal range. Since the initial IVIG treatment, we have seen glimpses of our Brooke now and then. But not enough. Words cannot express how greatful we are for friends like you.

Glad she is doing better. It's so hard to hear when a young child is ill. They are so innocent and of course, parents always want to protect their children. A speedy recovery.
