David Hines, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, is on a mission – to become the man God wants him to be and not be dependent on welfare.

He needs your help to make this happen since the last 13 years have put him in a real financial hole.

After spending the last 13 years either behind bars or on the street due to heroin addiction, David has done some great things in the last year:

- Gave his heart to Jesus and is actively following Him

- Totally gave up drugs

- Found a loving church that accepts him

- Realized that working hard and doing a good job are essential to being a man

- Discovered that he has a gift for evangelism and prayer

Dave is now in Wadsworth, Ohio attending the Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene (www.wadsnaz.com - 330-336-4258). Dave is also working at whatever laborer jobs he can find and has done a very good job. The two members of the church who have employed him can testify to his hard work and desire to do the best job possible.

Unfortunately, getting a steady, full-time job is not easy for a convicted felon with no resume for the last 13 years. He needs to pay for rent and basic needs in addition to the bills that have accumulated over time.

In addition to rent - getting his driver’s license would be a HUGE benefit to him. It would allow Dave to be more employable and allow him to get an inexpensive car so he can get to work rather than depending on rides from others or walking. But he has an outstanding bill with the State of Virginia Motor Vehicle Department which keeps him from getting one.

David is currently not receiving any assistance from government sources. To do so would require him not to work (in order to receive disability) or would require him to move to an area away from his church. Staying at his church is tremendously important. Anyone who has experienced rejection for years can appreciate how priceless the acceptance of others is – and Dave is accepted with great love at his church.

This account will be administered by an upstanding member of the Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene who is also a business owner. He will be responsible for ensuring the money raised goes to pay the bills noted above. All the money will go to an account he has opened specifically for this purpose.

This is an outstanding opportunity to help a Christian brother break the cycle of dependency. With God’s help Dave has done a tremendous job getting to his current situation. However, for him to become an active, participating and producing member of society he needs to get over this financial roadblock - that’s why we need your help.

Latest Update

Dave just broke 3 teeth (molars). As you can imagine, 13 years of homelessness and jails have not been kind to his oral health. He is in need of dental work and does not have the funds to pay for it. He also has to cover his December rent. Dave has put in two dozen applications and has worked sporadically as a laborer but the weather in December in Ohio is not conducive to that type of work. Please help get him through this winter.

Dave was able to get the apartment and was able to pay the security deposit and first rent with your help - THANK YOU!. Having an apartment will allow him to get a job easier since he can show residency. However, he still has big bills he has to pay in order to break out of the financial hole he got himself into. Please consider helping!

Dave is close to getting a studio apartment and getting out of the dirty, rundown hotel he has been staying at. This would be a terrific place for him. The monthly cost (with all utilities) is $595 so any help you can provide towards the 1st month's rent and security deposit would be great! Please pass this on to your other contacts. Thanks! Please call me if you have any questions (603-493-7143). Dale Coparanis
