Make Your Own!
Started by: Dawnnell Hughes
Huckleberry Farm is a woman run joint proprietorship owned and operated by mother and daughter team, Dawnnell Hughes and Taylor Rowden. The team of women currently raise Katahdin sheep and Jersey dairy cows.
The mother and daughter duo have a combined 28 years experience as herds women and shepherdesses with Dawnnell managing a 20-cow dairy for local raw milk distribution since 2002. Taylor purchased through USDA her flock of 25 Katahdin ewes at age 15 and has continued growing the flock as well as managed multiple beef, goat, pig, and poultry enterprises and seven acres of organically grown produce gardens.
Huckleberry Farms' immediate goal is to purchase a strategically located 30-acre heritage type farm to supply local Springfield, Missouri, consumers with raw milk, grass fed meats and educational and entertainment experiences. The farm will be successful because of the demonstrated demand for local, raw and grass fed products, the uniqueness of the semi urban location and the working knowledge of the female proprietorship of the farm.
Because of financial hardship after a year long divorce and walking away from a toxic business relationship, all meager savings have gone into the startup and beginnings of Huckleberry Farm, virtually from scratch. Dawnnell and Taylor are turning to you, our local community and what will be the heartbeat of Huckleberry Farm for your financial support.
Dawnnell and Taylor are currently able to rent the farm location, but have a fast approaching deadline to purchase the property. For the girls to be able to stay on the farm and have the opportunity to give back to the community through the offerings of Huckleberry Farm, they are humbly reaching out in their time of need.
