Anne and Blake were evacuated from the Fort MacMurray wildfires with basically the clothes on their back.
As tenants they do not have a home to go back to, and no tenant insurance to cover their belongings.
They are basically starting from scratch and need furniture and appliances, as well as food and clothing. Since Ann did pet sitting from home she will have no income until they can get set up again.
Ann has been a long time Cardigan owner and also involved in Pembroke rescue as well as a City of Missisauga bus driver, so we are specifically appealing to these communities for help. Here is her story in her own words:
"Hi. We are safe in camrose
I missed the first evacuation call as I was on the trails with dogs. It was a shit show by the time I got home. Got out with the pets, medication and passport. Blake's son came to share space on his trailer so I threw our summer clothes that were stored on there and 2 hastily packed suitcases. ALL my business stuff for the last 3 years and current stuff in a bin and gave it to him. His truck over heated and he was forced to leave it before he got to his own home. So I came out of the house with underwear, socks and 2 bras and one nighty. Blake faired better as the one suitcase with the clock radio and white noise machine made it. Duke is a wee bit stressed...destroyed his one squeeky toy that he has been coveting for nearly 2 years. He has food for 2 weeks. My one piggy that had a seizure is not doing well. This is too much for her 😢. She is still eating but is not wanting to take water like she was and I can see the strain on her face.
It took me 5 hours to find and join up with Blake. We drove out with flames on both sides of the road. Took 8.5 hours to get to grasslands which is normally a 2 hour drive."
