Hi everyone,
I am a 15 year veteran teacher. My husband just began teaching three years ago. My two children are 17 and 15, with one graduating in two months. During our 20 years of marriage, we have had financial ups and downs but we have always used them as learning experiences and we rarely ask for help. However, something has hit us that we never expected. When we moved to Florida, we wanted our town to be our forever home. Rental prices were cheap and schools were terrific. We currently live in a 900 sq.ft. apartment where our rent has raised from $1,400 a month to $1,800 a month. Three weeks ago, we were informed that our new lease has another rent increase and now they require us to pay $2,400 a month! Out of nowhere, we went from barely making ends meet, with a two-teacher income, to facing homelessness because we not only cannot afford our current rent, but there are suddenly no places to live under $2,000 a month, and that is for a 1bed 1bath apartment. This is the scariest thing we have faced in our lives. We have never faced the possibility of homelessness before. Now, we are going to move to North Carolina, where I already secured a teaching position with a large school district. However, we are not financially stable enough to afford moving costs, new rent and deposit, and utility setup when we are still paying for our Florida rent and utilities. We have no way to save money. We have no help. We barely make too much for assistance. We are desperate for help. We have to be in North Carolina by June 1st. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
