Make Your Own!

Our teenage adoption journey began in early 2018. However, our hearts were opened to adoption as early as 2014, when we pursued adopting domestically. The door to that particular adoption closed, but we knew that God had a plan to grow our family according to His will and in His perfect timing. Over the next few years, we witnessed friends in our community host orphans during Christmas and for an extended period of time in the summer. This hosting was facilitated through a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to improving the lives of Eastern European orphan children. Participation in the program is much like many of the mission trips we all experience through our churches here in the United States. The difference is that the mission comes to you. For the institutionalized child, the mission is to provide hope for a brighter future and an experience in a loving Christian family.
In 2017 we were looking through the photographs of children eligible for Christmas hosting, when one child in particular stood out to us. The weeks went by and we determined that Christmas 2017 was not the right time for us to host. Many families in our wonderful community did go on to host that season and were able to share their stories with our family. After much prayer and consideration, we decided to host an orphan child for the summer. Perhaps the sweetest part of those first weeks of attending an informational meeting about hosting, hearing the impact these children have on the families that host, and trying to select a child, was the realization that a sweet boy the previous host families were sharing fond memories of and suggesting for our hosting was, in fact, the same boy whose photo we were drawn to in the previous year. We knew that the Lord was at work. At that time, we were just hosting, hoping that in some small way we could share the love of a family and the love of Christ with this child. It is important for you all to know that hosting is completely separate from the pursuit of adoption.
We had been blessed by the Lord in countless ways over the years, and we felt called to share those blessings and hope with this sweet child. There is no doubt that God knew what he was doing when he brought D into our lives. Within days of his arrival he quickly stole our hearts. We knew that he was the perfect addition to our family, and we knew that, no matter the sacrifices, we would bring him home for good.
A friend of ours shared with us this statement to reflect upon, “There are many decisions in life we make that determine our future, but there are two very important factors a child has no choice in..the country where he is born and the parents to whom he is born.”. This is true for each of us; however, these children in Eastern Europe face statistics far more harsh than most of us can imagine.
Friends and family, we know that the road ahead will be full of blessings, making memories, challenges and healing. Not every individual or family is called to adopt, but we believe that making a difference for even just one child is impactful. The orphan crisis worldwide is daunting. We see it in our own communities and in every country around the globe. We invite you to join us on this journey. Due to privacy concerns and safety for all of the children, we have created a private group which you may join. We sincerely appreciate your prayers in the days and months ahead, your encouraging thoughts and support. We live in a wonderful community that extends far beyond county and state lines. Knowing that you all are praying for our family and for D brings us joy and comfort. Many of you have asked where monetary donations may be made. We have a separate bank account set up that check deposits will be made, or you may make a donation here with this link.
From our family to yours, we give sincere thanks for your love and support. We look forward to sharing our journey with you. Please let us know if you would like to join our private Facebook group for frequent updates. For those not on social media, please share our phone number and we will update with an occasional letter.
Abundant Blessings,
