We both had dreams of adopting a child long before we met. After getting married, we put kids on hold while we pursued adventures, running our own business, and pursuing additional education. We experienced some challenging years with multiple pregnancy losses.. and have returned to our long standing dream of providing a loving home and a chance for a child in need. We came across the picture and information of a sweet 3 year old boy with special needs in Bulgaria, and felt led to move forward with his adoption. It's going to be a long ( very expensive) road... but with your help, we can make it happen for this sweet little guy. Help us get him out of the orphanage and into a loving home!

*The majority of kids with disabilities are institutionalized for life in Bulgaria. Help us get this little guy out of the orphanage!

Here's a breakdown of some of the many costs associated with our adoption:

Paid:

$250 - Initial application fee to our agency - Hopscotch Adoptions

$1,800 - Homestudy fee

$8,050 - Agency service fee to Hopscotch

$500 - Mandated State Department oversight

$350 - fees for background checks, fingerprints

$775 - Application fee for USCIS (US Customs and Immigration)

$170 - Biometrics fees for USCIS

$225 - Mailing fee for when we send our dossier (all our documents) to Bulgaria

$9,505 - Bulgarian Agency fee / International service fee

$900 - Post adoption fee

$4,500 - Travel fees (airfare, accommodation, translator fees, food)

Upcoming:

$535 - Wiring fees (yes- it costs money to send money)

$6-8,000 - Estimated travel expenses for final trip to bring him home! We will need to stay for 8 days while we wait on his US Visa.

Total= $35,000+

We will ensure that any donation, big or small, will go directly toward our adoption expenses. If you have an interest in choosing a specific portion of the adoption to contribute toward (i.e. travel expenses), please let us know and we will make sure your contribution goes to that. We will make sure you remain part of our journey and will send updates throughout the process so you know what you have contributed to!

There is a service fee that will be taken out of your contribution (about 2.5%). If you would prefer to send your donation directly to us to make sure no fee is taken out, please let us know!

Thank you so much... your support means the world to us!

Latest Update

We returned from Bulgaria about a week ago after finally meeting our boy. He's amazing! Now we scramble to get final paperwork in as quickly as possible for the final stages of the process. Unfortunately, some holidays in Bulgaria may slow down this final push. Hoping to be traveling back to Bulgaria to get him by October or November.

We received news last Wednesday that we have an official referral! Now we wait for Article 16, which is the translated copy of the official referral. Along with that, we should be receiving travel dates for trip 1 to meet our little guy. We have 2 months from last Wednesday to have met him and made a final decision on whether or not to proceed with his adoption. We hope to be traveling to Bulgaria sometime in late June or early July!

No real updates at this point... other than the fact that we continue to wait for our official referral and an invitation to travel for trip 1 to meet our little guy in person. There may have been some delays due to holidays in Bulgaria during which the International Adoption Committee did not meet. We did hear about 10 days ago that our dossier is officially registered, which means they have confirmed that all our paperwork is adequate and ready for the next step. We are really hoping to hear about when we can travel within the next week or so... this part has taken longer than we expected. Most likely, we will be flying to Bulgaria sometime in June!

Our dossier is officially on its way to Bulgaria!!! Hopefully by middle of next week we will hear word from our Bulgarian agency that it has arrived safely. Then we wait for the agency to translate the paperwork and submit everything to the Bulgarian Ministry of Justice for review. If and when the MOJ approves our dossier, we will be provided with an official referral for our little guy and will be invited to travel to meet him for the first time. Hopefully that first trip will happen within the next 6-8 weeks! There's a slight chance we will need to do the visit virtually if his orphanage is not allowing outside visitors due to COVID. So thankful for all your support!

We received our Approval Notice from USCIS for I-800A today! This is a huge step!! Heading to Raleigh to get final documents apostilled to complete our dossier. Then dossier gets delivered to our agency for a final review before it makes its way to Bulgaria. Once Bulgaria receives the dossier, it will be translated and then await review of Ministry of Justice. Once MOJ reviews and approves our dossier we will be invited to travel for trip 1, during which we will get to meet and spend time with our little guy in person. We are so thankful for your support! :)

March 12 update: We finally received a completed homestudy at the end of February and promptly sent our I-800A application to USCIS to wait for approval. We received our Lockbox notification, meaning that our application is in possession of USCIS. Now we wait for notification of a Biometrics appointment - we will likely need to travel to Greenville, SC or Raleigh for this. In the meantime, we are pulling together all other dossier documents and sending originals for apostille at the state and national level. USCIS approval has been taking around 3 months... but we are hopeful that our process will go smoothly and quickly so we can get our full dossier to Bulgaria ASAP!

Current status 1/29/2022: We have been officially soft matched with our little guy in Bulgaria since September. We have completed all aspects of the homestudy and are waiting for the final write-up for review. As soon as we receive a completed homestudy, we can apply for USCIS approval, which is estimated to take about 3 months. Once we receive approval, we will send our dossier to Bulgaria and await an invitation to travel and meet him.
