On July 15, 2018 Saga Vanecek made an incredible historical discovery. She found a sword in a lake in Sweden which archaeologists believe to be 1,500 years old - from the Iron Age!
She has given the sword to Swedish authorities to have it preserved so that it can be displayed at a museum, for all Swedes, and indeed visitors from around the world, to enjoy and learn from.
As a reminder of her sensational discovery, we started this funding page to pay for a replica sword to be created, once the exact specifications of the sword and its scabbard are determined. After discussions with a sword expert in Sweden, we realized that this is a very expensive endeavor. He informed us that an exact replica of Saga's Sword - due to the meticulous nature, and incredible craftsmanship needed to duplicate it, could take about two years to fashion, and could cost an estimated 80,000 Swedish Kronor or more - depending on what types of metal have been used in the sword. (But, he did say that "she deserves to have that sword" so we're putting this out there to see if the world believes she deserves it, too. :-)
We think this would be an incredible gift from the world, to Saga - who inspired so many with her positively inspiring story of finding this ancient piece of history.
Note: anything over the cost of the sword will be used to help Saga with costs associated plans to write her very own children's book about finding the sword! We'd like to share her story with as many children as possible, so that it ignites interest in exploring and learning about history, one storytime at a time. :-)
