Hi all!
I am updating this on behalf of the Brock family. This fund was established when their dad went through his heart transplant surgery just last month. He is recently home and recovering however still has a long road ahead. On top of this Janie and Austin's mom (Tanya) suffered a severe brain aneurysm Sunday and now the family is making final arrangements for her. Janie is pregnant and her baby shower was suppose to be Sunday. Our hearts break so much for this family and all they are going through. Please share and do what you can to support such a wonderful family during this time.
I’ve struggled for weeks to write this but time is of the essence now. On January 28th of this year will mark 10 yrs since my father Bill Brock at the young age of 51 suffered a nearly fatal heart attack. He endured full organ failure and was put on life support. Within those first 24-48hrs things looked grim and we were told to expect and prepare for the worst. After a rollercoaster ride of emotions and diagnosis’s we were told he was improving a little bit day by day. My father in total spent about 4 months in the hospital recovering,he went from being at the brink of death to walking out of the hospital with a pace maker and defibrillator. He had a long road ahead but we were so blessed to come out the other side of such a terrifying experience.
For the last 10 yrs he has been mostly healthy and we felt so lucky to have every extra moment with him. Unfortunately about 6 weeks ago his health started to take a turn for the worst and his heart started to have trouble again. He has spent the last 4-6 wks in Tampa General hospital trying to recover. We got the news about 2 wks ago that a heart transplant was in his near future. He was put on a priority list last week and the nerve wracking wait began.
This past Friday the 10th of January we were notified that a heart had been matched and he was to get the heart Saturday morning. Our family made the trip to Tampa and began preparations to get him through the surgery and post-op life. A new heart is a wonderful gift however a transplant recipient has a long long road to recovery. They need 90 days minimum of 24/7 care and have to take loads of anti-rejection medication which can cost over $1,000 a month after insurance.Nonetheless, we were ready to band together to support and care for my father through this transition.
After 3 hrs in pre-op and us nervously waiting in the waiting room we got the news the new heart didn’t pass inspection and he wouldn’t be getting a new heart that day. We were back to square one. We were all disappointed, emotionally exhausted and scared what the future would hold. However, we know that it wasn’t meant to be and we are all hopeful a new heart will find its way to him as soon as possible.
This is our story. His story. We are asking for any help with medical bills and the cost of family needing to step in and help.
My father has his first grandchild on the way and I know he is so excited to meet his granddaughter. Life just won’t be the same without him. I know it will all work out. We ask at the very least for your prayers and happy thoughts. If you know my father you know he’s a character and bigger than life. He is so loved by those in his life and if you don’t know him you should know he certainly didn’t let those bonus years go to waste.
Thank you for reading our story and thank you for any donations ,they mean the world.
