Everything changed overnight for this sweet family. Nathan just turned 39 and found out he has Stage 4 Cancer after an emergency appendicitis. And it’s not just any cancer, but a cancer so rare that only 200 people in the US are diagnosed each year. It’s the kind of cancer that is not treatable with radiation or chemo. Surgery is the *only* option and Nathan just had a massive surgery last week to remove as much as they could but continued medical expenses and surgeries are inevitable on this journey.
Anyone who knows Nathan and Rachel knows that they are pillars of the community, always looking to help others out. Both have given back so much through volunteering and generous donations in the past and now (after a bunch of arm twisting) it is their turn to receive. We know of many who want to help, but don’t know how – and with so much going on trying to keep things moving as a family of 4, we also know it’s hard to know what does help. Thus, this fund and a few ideas to get them and you started. Please feel free to donate and/or support Nathan and Rachel however works best for you. Any and all support is very much appreciated.

Nathan and Rachel were invited by Nathan's family to tag along to Hawaii this summer. Using miles for plane tickets and staying with Nathan's family, the Davis-Goodlad family made many memories together and got some much needed relaxation in Hawaii!
Now back to reality... Unfortunately the big cancer conference in Atlanta scheduled at the end of September was postponed due to Covid concerns.
Nathan's next scan is in October to check if the cancer has spread.
There is a new clinical trial just announced that will test kids for the genetic markers. Although they don't think Nathan's specific cancer is genetic, the option is there to test the kids so they can look out for it if the study shows they are likely to get it.
In the meantime, Rachel continues to negotiate the doctor and hospital bills for everything that has happened so far and work out payment arrangements. Please keep the family in your prayers and let Rachel know if you hear of any job openings with good insurance.

Nathan had his next scan this morning where they injected radioactive material into him that will make any cancer cells light up on the scan. We don't know results yet, but should meet with the doctor soon to discuss what they are and next steps.
We also got connected with one of the leading experts in the country for a second opinion, which is such a relief no matter what he says!
