This is my cousin, Brandess. For > 25 years, she has suffered with multiple sclerosis. she has been in an electric wheelchair for 6 + years. During all of this time, she has managed to work and pay her own way. She finally applied for disability, which she has earned and to which she has a right, and was denied, because she has a work ethic and because she cannot afford to not work for 6 months and still eat. Now, however, she has secondary progressive MS, and is getting worse every day, and has RECURRENT Multiple Myeloma, stage Four. She can no longer earn enough money to pay her living expenses. Her Obama care insurance covers very little, leaving her with thousands of dollars of debt, plus everyday expenses. Please help. I can’t do it alone.

Fast forward 10 years. I walked daily. It was my exercise routine and my stress reliever. And then I stumbled. And again, later that week. Nothing there, just apparently tripping over air, a supposed crack in the sidewalk. It finally got bad enough that I went to the doctor. I wasn’t even thinking of the diagnosis 10 years earlier of MS. Medicine had advanced. We now did MRIs and lumbar punctures. Many things were ruled out. It wasn’t Lupus. It wasn’t heart disease. There were a lot of things it wasn’t. Then we got the results of the MRI. He put the films on the light box, and I knew. This was a confirmation of MS. The shadow in the brain. I was handed a book on the way out that pretty much told me to prepare my house, my life for a rapid decline in health and life in a wheel chair. The MS Journey begins. Two things here that are important to know. 1. I was a single Mom of a young son. 2. I was raised as the only girl with a slew of brothers. Tell me I couldn’t do something and I

The story as it unfolds: 26 years ago I stumbled on a walk. Vertigo, I thought. Must be coming down with something. Treated at home, increased hydration, made sure the ears were clean. But it didn’t go away. Eventually, I went to the eye doctor. Maybe it’s my vision? He was concerned, saw something in the exam that he insisted I see a neurologist. He wouldn’t put a diagnosis to his concern. I made an appointment with a neurologist. The neurologist asked the eye doctor what he saw that raised the concern, took a good record of what I was experiencing and after a few tests, told me I probably had MS. My heart stopped because I did not know what to expect. Not much was known at that time about MS. Luckily though, the symptoms went away. I thought surely the diagnosis was wrong. I didn’t understand the nature of the beast.
