In 2007, my left salivary gland enlarged to the size of a golf ball and I was unable to get relief from the pain or decrease the swelling. At the time my only option was to remove the left gland completely (submandibular gland sialendoscopy). 12 years later, my right gland is starting to swell more frequently. Good news, I found a surgeon who can remove the stone without removing the entire gland (transoral stone removal). Unfortunately, the surgeon doesn't accept health insurance and I don't qualify for financing. This outpatient surgery must be done by a specialist when the gland is not enlarged or swollen. If the gland becomes swollen as my left gland did in 2007, the entire gland will need to be removed. My hope is to avoid gland removal with this preventative transoral stone removal surgery asap.
Surgery costs include:
Surgeon Fee: $5,000
Facility Fee: $3,750
Anesthesia Fee: $770
Pre-surgery exam: $200
Labs and other tests: $150
Total surgical costs: $9,870
Credit card fees (from donations): $276
Total cost: $10,146
The surgery is in Los Angeles and I live in Tucson, AZ. Costs do not include transportation from Arizona or my stay in Los Angeles. So any additional funds will go towards the logistics. I thank you for your support, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me keep my salivary gland. Spit is pretty awesome.
