As the Hatlee ‚ Haskins & Zampa families prepare to welcome the newest little addition to our crazy crew, we also ask you to join us in anticipating and preparing for the potentially life changing gift she may be bringing along with her for her cousin, Sir Fox.
Sir Fox is doing well relative to his prognosis—he has been able to accomplish some milestones doctors thought he wouldn't here and there, so those are happy things, of course. However, unfortunately, he hasn't defied the doctors' prognosis by far. While we celebrate the small victories, overall, he remains profoundly disabled in every aspect of life. Though minute progress will continue, it is likely that without new research and treatments, realistically, Sir Fox's struggle will not result in anything near a complete restoration of the potential abilities he might've had before the brain damage. As doctors feared, it is more likely his life will be more a case of management and full-time care for the extent of his lifetime.
As this became clearer and clearer with Sir Fox reaching 2 and now 3 years old, our focus and the discussions with his medical team shifted to emerging treatments, some mere ideas about to undergo initial testing, other cutting-edge medical developments already having undergone dozens of clinical trials. Back when our neurologist first informed us of Sir Fox's severe brain damage showing on the MRI scans, even then, he told us not to despair...that hope was on the horizon, as new research exciting developments in medical science in the area of brain conditions that showed we were likely a mere five or so years away from some promising treatments being made available that might have the capability of to restore more of Sir Fox's function.
