****NOVEMBER 1, 2019****

Dear Family & Friends: We need to share with you that Ryan is going into battle against a recurrence of cancer......but is well-armed with an arsenal of excellent weapons: (1) an amazing & devoted wife who has relentlessly researched treatment options that offer best success; (2) a dedicated, expert & cutting-edge neuro-oncology team at the University of Colorado; (3) advice & recommendations from additional medical professionals, nutritionists, naturopaths & other sources that specialize in glioblastomas; (4) the love and support of family and friends like you.

Ryan has started taking a daily chemo pill & added many supplements/vitamins to his daily regiment. In December, he will have another MRI to evaluate any changes. Should the MRI reveal that the area is growing, innovative “awake” surgery will be scheduled & performed by UC neurosurgeons to remove the growth.

In the last several weeks, Ryan & Bibiana have traveled to many different specialists and spent an enormous amount of time, effort, and emotional energy wading through differing opinions in order to find the most effective treatment protocol specific to Ryan. As we all know, the best treatments also come at an exorbitant cost, plus the expenses of frequent travel and lodging. On November 19, a favorite Winter Park restaurant will be hosting a fundraiser event – drinks, dinner, a silent auction, and salsa lessons! If you are unable to attend, please consider contributing to their continued fight through the Plumfund website via credit card or check (instructions below) or simply walk into any Wells Fargo bank to make a deposit into the Ryan Appleby Donation Account.

Thank you so much for your love and support!

One year ago our lives changed forever. December 16, 2016 Ryan was admitted to the ER after several headaches. A CT scan showed hemorrhage and shifting on his brain. They transported him to Swedish Medical Center where they confirmed he had a tumor the size of a plum in his left temporal lobe. The Neurosurgeon recommended immediate surgery. Ryan underwent a 5 hour surgery and came out making jokes and demanding drinks! When the doctor asked him what was his last name he said "Badass" and I knew he was back! However, the worst was to come. We heard the most horrific words: You have brain cancer, and one of the most aggressive types: Glioblastoma. We have had a very tough year filled with anger, sadness, pain, uncertainty; but also the love and support of our friends and family. Today, after a year, we are OK. Ryan continues to work, have fun, and remain positive. The treatment seems to be working. Today we are going skiing! Thank you for all your love and support. Ryan is a fighter!

Hello everyone. It has been a while since our last update and many of you have asked how is Ryan doing. He is doing very well and the last scan was very positive. He has been active and recently went hunting. As always, he is fixing and playing with his trucks and motorcycles. The days right after his treatment are very rough, but he still goes to work during those days! It never stops to amaze me how strong, determined, and positive he is. He is a true inspiration. Thank you all for thinking of us. Love to all! --Bibiana

On Saturday August 26, nearly 100 people came out to Edgewood Golf Course in WI to play a round in support of Ryan! It was a gorgeous day on the links and turned out to be a bigger success than we expected! Thank you to all who participated and donated! On Monday September 4, Ryan and Bibiana participated in an annual Labor Day kickball tournament to benefit The Brammer Foundation, an organization that has helped them and many others with expenses during treatment. Naturally, Ryan played on the Cheesehead team! GO PACK!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who supported and shared Ryan's story in the last 30 days! We set a goal of $2600 to mark the 26 weeks since Ryan's diagnosis and I'm thrilled to say we surpassed it with a grand total of $3341! Which means... Bibiana fulfilled her pledge today and donated 8 inches of her gorgeous hair to others undergoing cancer treatment! Thank you so much for your support! Love to all of you ❤️

Hope everyone had a great holiday! There were extra Applebys in Colorado last week and they had a blast hiking, rafting, and camping together! Thursday was back to the grind though with Ryan's second chemo infusion as well as another round of chemo pills. Please send prayers and good thoughts to help them through this difficult week. A Plumfund update as well - we have raised an amazing $2260 in the last three weeks and have posted 11 sliming videos on Facebook for your enjoyment! If we can raise the last $340 of our goal by July 16 Bibiana will be chopping and donating at least 8" of her hair! I hope we get to see how cute that is! Thank you so much for your support!!

Friday June 16 marks 6 months – 26 weeks – from the date of Ryan’s diagnosis. In that short time, Ryan has undergone brain surgery, 33 radiation treatments, over 100 days of chemo pills, one chemo IV infusion, and hours of poking, prodding, and scanning. The first IV infusion last week led to some pretty sick days unfortunately. Let’s take this moment to rally the forces and each donate $26 to mark 26 weeks of relentless fighting! In addition to the hospital care, this money will allow them pursue naturopath treatments and supplements not covered by insurance that are integral to keeping Ryan strong through this battle. To put the FUN in this FUNdraising campaign, for every $260 raised, a member of Ryan’s family is going to get SLIMED and videos posted for your enjoyment! When we reach $2600, Bibiana will chop off those beautiful locks and for the first time in her whole life sport a chin length hairdo! Please share this link to get others involved so we can reach our goal! Thank you!

All went well today! Ryan did great with his first infusion (although it was a long process) and the MRI showed that the nodule they saw 8 weeks ago has shrunk by 75%, further strengthening the belief that it is necrosis and not new tumor growth! An exhausting day, but ending on a high note!

Today marks a new phase of Ryan & Bibiana's fight. A few weeks ago they met with a new doctor to discuss alternatives to the treatment plan they were currently pursuing. Bibiana waded through mountains of research and after getting this doctor's perspective and much discussion at home, they made the difficult decision to add chemo IV infusion to the current regimen of chemo pills. Ryan is having an MRI in Denver this morning followed by his first infusion. Infusions will be once a month in Denver in addition to the monthly chemo pills he takes at home. While this may make things more difficult in the short term, the expectation is that this more aggressive treatment has a much better chance of preventing any recurrences! Results of the MRI are expected by the end of the day. Please pray for good news and some degree of calm while we wait. Thank you for your love and support!

Bibiana participated in the Denver Brain Tumor Walk on Saturday June 3. It was an emotional day as thousands of people came out to show their support for their loved ones and each other. Too many people are fighting this monster and hoping for a cure. All funds raised through the event benefit the National Brain Tumor Society whose mission is to advance research and improve the availability of new and better treatments, all leading to the discovery of a cure for brain tumors. More information on their progress can be found here: http://braintumor.org/
