The Cheney/Webb family sadly lost a son, brother, uncle and friend unexpectedly over the weekend; with this sudden loss the family is grieving and as you can imagine, the last thing we want them to worry about is finances. Funeral expenses are only the beginning for this family.
Tj made the selfless decision to serve his country but when he returned from Iraq he was not the same person. Here is a post from Austin that eloquently spoke of his journey. “My brother is finally at peace. He battled his war in the mind for far too long. He lost a piece of himself overseas in the sandbox. He fought for over a decade. I salute him. He fought gallantly. He is a hero amongst men. I remember hearing that he was an unspoken leader. The one the enemy feared. I would have loved to serve by his side. Unfortunately, as many of those before him. PTSD and mental illness does happen and it is real, and is very largely unregulated. Especially in the military community. Veteran suicide awareness is known, but is brushed aside because we as humans choose to ignore it. We let our pride, our ego, take over; and by such we think we are stronger than that. It’s times like these when Suicide does happen. I had a similar encounter of death during my time as a cop in the military. It was tough on the mind. It always is. We are reminded life is so fragile. We must embrace it, cherish it, and love each other. There is too much hate in this broken world. So why not, try and help put the pieces back together. This weekend undoubtedly is by far the hardest encounter in my family’s life so far. Not only do we mourn the loss our close family friend with their son Braden Hamilton, who lost his life on Friday. But we also mourn the loss of my brother Teej Cheney on Saturday. I’m still at a loss for words. I just want to bring more awareness to Suicide. It has affected so many lives in our community, we got to see the pattern and start being more vocal to one another. Reach out, pick up the phone, go see that friend you haven’t spoken to in years. Just open up. Don’t let your demons dwell within, we all can relate somehow. At the end of the day, we are all human. I’m not asking you to post a pic or a quote, but to simply respect boundaries, be polite, and love one another. Thank you.- Signed Austin
Please consider helping out his loved ones through this difficult time as they navigate this tragedy and move forward in life without him. All donations will be received by his mother, Julie and will help cover the cost to bring him home with a proper burial. If you have any questions on how plumfund works or need assistance please contact me. We would like to give her mother the peace of mind during this very difficult time as she is left without her son and a financial burden.
