Update **** Groot is doing really well now and the vet is quite positive on him making a good recovery and full use of his leg. He required a lot of time in the ICU and as a large dog requires lots of extras...extra food, meds, iv fluids. Cost has once again went up. They are now looking at slightly under $10,000. This is a huge difference from the 4,000 we originally thought which was a lot but doable. We'll figure it out however Any help is appreciated greatly.
Groot is a livestock guardian dog and a wonderful companion.
The other day he left the property chasing a predator. When he didnt come back after an hour my husband went searching for him. He found him at the bottom of a river ravine with a badly broken leg. I raced home from work when my husband called but our giant boy couldnt be lifted by us. Thankfully the local firefighters came and lifted him out of the ravine and into my car. Not once did this sweet and patient boy snap or even growl though I know he had to be in severe pain. He just looked at me with eyes that said he trusted me.
We took him immediately to our regular vet and she realized after a day that Groot needed a lot more help than she was able to provide. On recommendation we took him to the TN Veterinary College in Knoxville... a 3 and half hour drive. Completely worth it as they are amazing. Patient with all my questions and concerns. Constant updates and detailed information of what is happening. They've all commented on his sweet demeanor and how he loves attention.
Our initial quote was around $4000 however because of his size and how extensive the break was it's now to around $8000. This is only for the surgery. There are soon to be rehabilitation and medication costs as well.
We love our boy and as I just had to send my other pup of 15years across the rainbow bridge I cant give up another one of my fur babies so soon. Any little bit will help in the weeks ahead. I appreciate everyone who wants to make another's life a little bit brighter. Prayers and healing thoughts are also greatly appreciated.
