Hi everyone! I am an animal rescuer in the Ellis County, TX area - and one thing that I come across a lot is BYBs (back yard breeders) that create horrendous, inhumane living conditions that most pups don't make it out of. On this particular rescue - an amazing neighbor was sick and tired of seeing litter after litter being born from an Aussie mix mother. Not only were they letting her breed back to back, but the residence was situated less than 1/4 mi from a very busy TX highway. This neighbor contacted me and I came out to assess the situation. It was worse than I could have imagined - and hearing the horror stories of them not being fed or watched after – they got to roam freely and ate garbage IF they could find some, and also stories of finding dead pups, and her actually witnessing an entire litter get killed on the highway - without hesitation I said I would pull them for rescue...I didn't know which rescue would take them on - but I knew I couldn't leave them there...I was informed that one week prior to them contacting me – there had been approximately 24 puppies – once I was called in – there were only 8.
The following days were filled w/ rescue friends coming together to vaccinate/deworm, and provide a large crate and food to that neighbor so that she could keep them contained and safe while we searched for great foster homes for the litter of puppies and the mother, as well as one pup that is about 6 months old that actually made it through everything from being in a previous litter. Within 2 days, we had fosters for all 8 puppies, 2 of which have been adopted out to fully vetted forever homes by myself. And then the best news ever came – an amazingly generous rescue came in to back them! They are now under the care of Tess K9 Rescue.
Now for where things have gotten expensive. All pups were slightly emaciated. They are all gaining weight now and doing great. However – after being checked out w/ a vet, we have uncovered the fact that we have pups from 2 different litters. Some of them are 8 weeks, and some are 12 weeks. Also discovered at the vet – they all tested positive for having a tape worm..that’s where the bills are starting.
Our next task is to rescue the mother and her older pup. I have found a great foster in Texas to hold and care for them while we get them vetted and spayed, and after that they will be transported to a very experienced foster in Seattle, WA that will work with the daughter on her fear – at the moment she is semi-feral as she hasn’t had much human interaction even those she lived outside her owners house for months.
So – that brings me to our plea – we have found great fosters…we have found an amazing rescue to back them …we have found transport…what we need help with is all the vetting in the middle. I have calculated current expenses along with expected expenses – and in order to get all 7 pups and momma fully vetted and ready for adoption – we need to raise $1,500!!! So please – help us with #OPERATIONFUZZBALL – any amount of donation will help – it seriously takes a village to save lives and make a difference in a society that is becoming more and more inhumane. We can’t do what we do w/ out the help of compassionate people like yourself. So please help if you can – and please share this so that we can get as much exposure as possible!!! Thank you sooooo much!!! God bless
