My dear dog Shlomi began vomiting on 9/28 and has kept down very little, including water, since then. She has lost weight and is shaky, but her spirit is strong. It has cost $1000 for blood tests, X-rays, IV, and medicine, and it will be at least an additional $350 for tests the vet recommends to successfully diagnose the problem. Shlomi will also need nutritional and medicinal support to recover. My birthday is November 10 -- my wish is for a happy, healthy Shlomi to share it with! Your support as funds and/or well-wishes are very appreciated.

Latest Update

Happy Thanksgiving to All! Shlomi and I enjoyed a good walk today and she was very frisky! Now, she is resting by the fire. We are very grateful to all of you.

Ahhh! Sweet Shlomi! Thanks for the update! How is the feeding chair working? Love you all!

Mya Coursey — 5 years ago

Yay, Shlomi! All good wishes to you both on this Thanksgiving evening.

Shlomi and I are getting used to her "upright" feeding sessions, and she is keeping almost all of her food down. A miracle! I have ordered a Bailey chair and neck hugs -- both recommended for dogs with megaesophagus. Thank you to everyone who has contributed funds, prayers and encouragement! I am looking forward to celebrating my birthday next Saturday with my sweet dog Shlomi. In no small way, your support has saved her life, and saved my heart from breaking. This campaign is open for another week or so. If you are able to contribute, your funds will go towards paying off my credit cards for vet bills and the expense of Shlomi's Bailey chair and neck hug, etc. Any funds over that amount will be used to support her special dietary needs. Thank you. Thank you. And, have a wonderful day!

Here is a current picture of Shlomi. We are resting outside on this beautiful day. With funds raised here, I am hoping to pay off my credit card from vet bills, so that I can purchase the special feeding equipment that Shlomi needs. Thank you to all for your continued support and encouragement! xoxox & Woof! Woof!

Here is a picture of Shlomi taken in the last few years. I thought you might appreciate seeing her. Since getting the diagnosis of megaesophagus, we have been feeding Shlomi in an upright position. This is challenging, but it allows food to travel from her esophagus into her stomach with the help of gravity and keeps her from regurgitating it. This change has meant that she has eaten and kept down her food for the past three days!!! And, she (and I) have been able to sleep through the nights. I am so thrilled. She is resting and taking little walks, and has a lot more energy and pep. I am looking into buying/building a contraption to keep her comfortably upright while feeding (and for 10-20 minutes afterwards) and purchasing a pillow collar for her that will help support her neck while she's sleeping. Meanwhile, I continue to educate myself on megaesophagus and how to manage it. Thank you again for your support and kindness! It has made a huge difference in our lives.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to this effort, by giving funds, encouragement and/or sharing the message with others. It has truly touched my heart. Because of your generosity, I was able to take Shlomi to the vet today for some diagnostic testing that finally gave us some clear answers. She has a serious condition called megaesophagus. It will take a lot of tending, and care, but she should be able to live life with it, and get back on track with eating and drinking once we figure out a few strategies for how to work with her new situation. I will keep you posted as things progress. Thank you so very much for your caring support.
