**We participated at the Dog Tales Festival in King City on August 26th & 27th. Our booth held a raffle, sold delicious cookies donated from Sweet B's, and sold gift items in support of Cuban animal rescue.

It was a very successful weekend and 100% of proceeds and donations will be used to purchase goods for our veterinarian friends in Santa Marta and Cardenas.**

PARTY GIRL’s STORY - THE INSPIRATION to Help Cuban Animals

Last year, while working in Havana, I met a sweet little puppy with a charming personality. She was not yet jaded by Havana’s streets and it was easy to fall in love with her. I knew that I had to find a new life for her. My friend Lori and I headed to Cuba with financial donations and gifts of pet supplies from friends and veterinarians. We left many new friends behind in Cuba, but we returned to Canada with Party Girl, who is now thriving in her new life as a Canadian dog.

We met wonderful Cuban people who were trying to provide animal rescue and advocacy. They work against a system and policies that do not support animal welfare. These people inspire us to continue to support them in caring for Cuba’s animals who have no legislated protection in Cuba. During high profile visits by people like the Pope or President Obama, dogs are rounded up, dumped in garbage trucks, poisoned with strychnine, and left to die agonizing deaths.

We will be returning to Cuba to do volunteer work with animals in early December. We are seeking donations of medication, food, blankets, anything that our veterinarian friends can use. We will purchase veterinary supplies in Canada, which are unavailable in Cuba, and bring them with us.

Can YOU help? Even a little bit? Please help me to make this trip a success. 100% of your donation will make its way to Cuba, I promise you!

If you would prefer to donate by cheque, email me at partygirlproject@gmail.com and I will advise how you can do that!

THANKS

Thank you for helping to make our fundraising campaign for Cuba's animals successful! As you can see, we were able to purchase medications, veterinary supplies, and food. We distributed the gifts to veterinarians and animal protectors in Varadero, Cardenas and Havana. Diego is pictured with Linda in this photo. He is a cat who was temporarily paralyzed in an accident and was using a wheelchair. Dr. Gladis worked with him to regain his strength and he is now able to walk, jump, and express himself really loudly, as you can see in this photo!

Gemma, Sophie, Geri, Cohen, Johnny Cash and Kitty Perry would like to donate $50 of their Christmas money to the Party Girl Project. As rescues themselves they know how hard it can be living on the streets, so they want to help make things better for their friends in need in Cuba. Special thank you to Lori, Linda, and the amazing veterinarians like Dr. Gladis and Dr. Yohanky, who do so much for all the animals of Cuba with so little! Feliz navidad y próspero año nuevo!

I'm so glad that I am able to go to Cuba to catch up with two footed and four footed friends. Lots to do: Attend a spay/neuter clinic, provide donation packages to veterinarians, deliver travel kennels, visit old and new friends in Havana - Aniplant and CEDA, and maybe act as a 'flight angel' for an animal who needs to be escorted to Canada.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the PGP’s fundraising campaign. Special thanks to Julie & Mark who transported supplies that were purchased with YOUR donations. In spite of the fact that Dr. Felipe was unable to meet Julie at the hotel, the day following Castro’s death, the packages were held by a manager at the hotel who knows him. You must understand that the hotel is not open to Cubans who do not work there. Making arrangements can be complicated, communication is difficult, and precious supplies can easily go missing. Thank you Marian for relaying messages between Toronto-Florida-Holguin. On the upcoming trip, it is likely that donations will be distributed in Havana. During the last trip to Cuba, we stayed at a B&B on San Nicolas street in Centro Habana and met many kind people. This picture was taken in the home of one of our neighbours, who took great care of us, and was very generous with whatever he had. We hope to visit with old friends again.

Thanks for your donation, Corry. Street dogs of Havana have a very difficult life. Oftentimes, their lives come to a cruel end. There are no animal protection laws and no support systems for spay & neuter programs. Aniplant is launching a trap-neuter-release program for cats. A first step of controlling animal populations in a humane way.

Hi Guys! A lot has changed for me since Linda found me at Hemingway Marina in Havana. I enjoyed the Cuban sunshine and being my own boss, but it was very stressful not having a home or anything to eat. Sometimes kind people fed me or took me on their boat, that was really nice. Even though I tried really hard to be super happy and cute, they never let me stay. Then, Linda met me! She saw that I was fun and called me Party Girl ‘cuz I wanted to be wherever the fun stuff was! She knew that it was really tough for Cuban animals who didn’t have a place to live, so, she arranged to take me to someplace called Canada! After a scary plane ride, and going through Immigration at the airport, it was official, I emigrated to Canada! I was Canadian. I do miss the Cuban sunshine, but I have a really great home now, I have toys, I sleep on a couch, I LOVE taking car rides, and I have good food every day. I have a family now. (bbbrrrr, it is pretty cold in winter, THAT was a shock!)

When Linda and her friend Lori came to get me in Cuba, they met lots of people who help animals. It is very hard work. Most people don’t have time or money to take care of animals in Cuba. Some people don’t like animals and are very mean to them, they say that we have diseases. It is very hard to stay healthy when you are living in the street and eat out of the garbage. Cuba is a nice place for tourists at the beach, but it is sometimes very hard for Cuban people and animals. Linda & Lori started the Party Girl Project. They call themselves the Party Girls (they were inspired by MEEEeeee). They are going to visit Cuba again with animal supplies, food, and medicine. Would you be able to help them and donate even a little bit? So, they can buy LOTS of stuff for my Cuban friends. A little help from you will really help A LOT !!
