Our dear friend Lisa's sweet pup, Sunshine, has been under 24 hour veterinary care since Saturday January 7th. Lisa and Sunny were playing a game of fetch in the back yard when Sunny cried out in pain and went lame in her back end. After spending the weekend in the emergency room, blood work, a CT scan and an MRI, the Veterinary Neurologist determined that she ruptured a disc in her spine. Sunny is showing some mild improvement but will need to remain under 24 hour veterinary care for a few more days and has a long road ahead of her. As some of you may know, Sunny had an incident 1 year ago where she swallowed a large rock and Lisa is still recovering from those veterinary bills. Sunny is a member of the family and deserves the best care there is, so we want to help Lisa and Sunny get that care. She is looking at upwards of $3,000 in veterinary bills and counting. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Lisa can provide updates on Sunny's condition, but for now we wanted to start a fund for Sunny so that Lisa can concentrate on her recovery and not have to worry so much about how she will pay for it.

Latest Update

Hi everyone! Sunny here again. Mom said a lot of people have been asking about me so I should tell you how I am. I had a check up with my doc on Monday. Mom said the trip was quite the ordeal but she is known to exaggerate. It was good to see some of my people friends that took care of me. Doc said that he is really happy with how I am doing. My left foot is getting stronger and we work on my exercises every day. I pretend I don't like them but it's fun when mom and Kendall spend time with me! Thanks again for being so nice to me and so supportive of mom. Hopefully I can pay you back by walking again soon! Have a happy night! Love Sunny

Hi everyone! It's Sunny! I still get scared and sad when I think about getting hurt but mom says my glass is half full. Not sure full of what but I hope it's yummy. Do you see how good I look standing up!? My back foot doesn't work right. I scrape it on the ground when I walk. Mom put a baby sock on me to protect it but I didn't like that too much. So today I decided it was time to start trying to make that foot work. Still not very good but Mom was so excited when she came home and saw that! So were my new friends Kendall and Addy. They come help me at lunch. I love them a lot. Ohhh! Almost bed time. Mom sleeps on the couch to be next to me. I'm pretty sure she enjoys it. She makes a lot of noise when she gets up so she must be happy! XXOO. Sunny

Hi everyone. It's Lisa. I know you were hoping for Sunny but she is pretty wiped out. We both are. She's been back home a week and sufficed to say, it's been tough. Good. But tough. Actually she said she wants to update everyone about that tomorrow. I just wanted to jump on here and finally do something I have been meaning to do for a while. Send out my heartfelt thanks to everyone that has helped and continues to help us during this ordeal. Please know I am thinking of each of you when I say we could never have gotten to this point without our village. For the emotional, physical, mental and financial help. I am so humbled and appreciative of the kindness shown by friends, family and strangers. Both named and anonymous. Pretty sure I don't deserve it. But no doubt Sunshine does. A very special thank you to the medical staff that got her through the worst. Still a long road ahead but we are staying optimistic. Sunny will be back with the comedy tomorrow. πŸ’•

Hi everyone! It's me Sunny. Guess what? I'm home!! It is so good to be home. Mom and I are happy but a little tired. I'm getting stronger each day. Today I am chillin in my favorite spot. Yesterday when it was time to eat, mom picked up my food bowl and when she turned back around I was standing up all by myself. If you think that's impressive, today after mom finally put my necklace (collar) back on, she heard it jingle after a few minutes. When she looked I was standing at my water bowl drinking. Mom says I tri-podded it about five feet to get there. Totally solo. She was super happy. I've had a few visitors come by and give me love too. Thank you all so much for saying nice things about me to mom. It has really helped her stay strong. Love, Sunny

Hi everyone! It's Sunny! I told mom that people might be tired of hearing about my ouchie so she said I could tell a story! It's about how I got my name. Aunt Dawnee found me all by myself on the mean streets of Tucson when I was only six weeks old. She sent mom this picture and said "want a puppy"? Mom cussed her out the whole time she was driving to get me. Mom slept on the couch with me in a basket next to her for a week. Everytime she woke up I was staring at her. She would say Good morning Sunshine. I knew that was my name right away but it took her like a week to figure it out! She's crazy. Oh, BTW - I'm going home tomorrow. Mom just said I buried the lead! Lol! Next time I will check in from home. Yeah!! I'm gonna heal even faster now. Love, Sunny

Hi everyone. Guess who? It's Sunshine! I didn't have an update yesterday because I wasn't feeling very good. Mom came and saw me but I was just a little sad. But today was sooo much better. Mom and Aunt Dawnee came and I was so excited. Both my doctors (yes I'm special enough to have 2) came in and talked to them. I showed how much better I'm getting standing and they did my exercises. I don't like those too much but mom says I have to do them. I'm getting really good scooting around on my behind just using my front legs. My doctor told mom my healing will be easier if I lose a little weight. I think I need to see his degree because that doesn't sound right. But I did get a yummy apple from mom. She is the best! More later. Have a good night! Love Sunny

Hi everyone, Sunny again. Mom came and saw me yesterday and told me that my favorite team lost. I asked her to post an old picture of me waiting for football season to start. I love my football. And I love mom yelling at that flickering box. Not as much as I love Lucky Dog though. Brandon is awesome. So I surprised mom yesterday and the doctor helped me stand all by myself. He calls it coffee table. Whatever. I call it hard. She got super excited. I don't know what the big deal is. I have done way cooler things before. But if she likes it, I will work hard to do it for longer periods and not as wobbly. The doctor told mom I may be able to go home by the end of the week. That would be awesome. Then mom will be doing my exercises with me to help me walk and maybe run again. Cross your fingers for me. You know....since I can't. Too short... You know what I mean. Thanks again for taking care of mom while I am in here. Till next time. Love, Sunny

Hi everybody! It's Sunny again. Mom and Jolene came and saw me yesterday. I got lots of belly rubs and treats. Mom brushed me too. I liked it so much I tried to wag my tail. She got really excited when I was able to twitch it. That's the best I can do right now. My friends at the hospital told on me. I like to eat all the yummy chicken and leave the hard kibble in my bowl. They say I'm spoiled but I think I'm just smart. Still can't walk around but doc said I'm standing on one of my hurt legs a little longer. The best part was that mom got to use the belly sling to walk with me back to my bed. Her and Jolene both saw how hard I am trying to make my leg work. Thanks again for all your love. Maybe tomorrow I will have more exciting news!

  • Lisa Sommer7 years ago Hi everybody! Mom said she is supposed to give updates about me but she wasn't sure how. Hopefully she figured something out. She said people are sending money (whatever that is) and love(I KNOW what that is) to help me get better. I'm still not able to do the things I used to. The nice people here put this thing under my belly to help me walk around until I can do it on my own. I give them lots of kisses to say thanks. They say I'm a sweet girl and rub my belly! Mom comes and sees me every day. I'm not as scared as I was but I really want to go home with her. I let her know by giving her sad eyes when she tries to leave. She says I'm a stinker. That's all for today. Mom said she will put pictures up. I tried to smile pretty. Love, Sunny
