Dogs bring so much joy, companionship and unbridled dedication to our lives. They greet as at the door, are always pleased to see us, and give something that is truly priceless, unconditional love.

In Casey’s world, not only is she the constant companion for Tom, her owner, she is also his Service Dog in Training. Aged just three years old, this lovely American Staffordshire Terrier is attending the White Mountain College for Pets, based in Plymouth New Hampshire.

She’s a ‘dog with a job. ’ Her day involves stewardship of her owner, Tom, who is a disabled Veteran living in Moultonborough here in the Granite State. She picks items up for Tom, assists him getting in and out of chairs, reminds him to take medication and provides an unfailing, calming, supportive and gentle presence 24 hours a day.

About six months ago Casey tore her right cruciate ligament. Her training at College for Pets thought it best for Casey to take a break from training giving her body time to mend and recuperate. Having recovered her right knee, Casey has torn the cruciate ligament in her left knee, a common occurrence with such cases; she’d been compensating for the right leg for some time. Veterinary care will be upwards of $4000 including surgical intervention, antibiotic therapy, post operative follow up care. Sadly Tom cannot afford this, but he also cannot afford to be without Casey’s support.

For now this strong, stalwart canine receives pain medication only, but surgical repair is really what is needed in order for her to continue her work and certification to help Tom, her owner.

Tom has given years of service to his country; can we now assist Casey as she gives service to her owner?

Thank you for keeping us up-to-date. Glad Casey is back to normal.

Its been about a week since Casey had her stitch's out . She has been sleeping and sleeping and binge watching Pit -bull and parolees and Animal Cops Houston. She has been doing great at following the doctors orders so she walks me on a leash to the mailbox and back. Leash walking for 5 more weeks then slow walks to get the muscles built back up in her legs. I still cannot thank everyone enough for all that you have done for Casey. The generosity is overwhelming.

I dropped Casey of yesterday for surgery and she made through great. Casey will stay at the hospital for a couple days to make sure she is getting rest and to help me due to my limitations. I can't thank everyone for everything enough because of all who has donated and shared she was able to have her surgery.

Prayers for a complete and speedy recovery!

Casey went to Northern Lakes Vet in Ashland and the veterinarian is very concerned about both her knees and has stated that we can not wait for the surgery. Her knees are bad and surgery needs to happen now rather than later. He also stated that with her age and breed she should recover quite well as they are a resilient breed. Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17th. Thank you to all who have donated to assist us with this procedure. We appreciate you all very much!

We took Casey to see the surgeon and after an extremely thorough examination, it was recommended by the surgeon that Miss Casey have surgery on both knees. Currently, her left knee is in worse shape and should be treated first. We have scheduled surgery for June 16th for her left knee. If during this time we have raised enough, the surgeon will do both knees.
