Make Your Own!

Back in March, I traveled to Scotland and had an amazing trip, with a wonderful friend. When I was in Glasgow, I auditioned for the Masters program in Classical and Contemporary Text at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I did not go with the expectation that I would get in, I went to face a fear. A week later my plan landed back in Minnesota and I had an email waiting saying "Congratulations!"
Since that time, I have been a jumble of emotions ranging from "OMG-can't-believe this-is-happening-so-excited-I-can't-feel-my-face" to "so-anxious-this-is-all-going-to-fall-apart-I'm-frozen". I have been applying for grants and scholarships, working odd jobs for people, and I even picked up a few part-time jobs all going toward the get my ass to Scotland for Grad school fund. And I am slowly working my way toward my goal. I have even received a scholarship from the school, which helps greatly, but not enough to make this a for sure thing.
As a way to help cover some costs, I have decided to host a fundraiser at the Phoenix Theatre, on Aug 20th. The Fundraiser will involve performance elements, some fun things in the lobby, food, and lots of hugs. I've also had people ask how to donate if they are unable to come to the Fundraiser, and after doing some research and asking for advice, I came across Plumfund, and thought it was the perfect fit. Not only can people donate online, but there is also a way for cash and check's to be counted toward my goal, which means I can use it at the Phoenix Fundraiser as well!
You might be wondering about why I have a goal of $2,000. Part of my struggle in financing this wonderful opportunity is that I was not aware of some of the additional costs until after I was accepted into the program. The $2,000 raised here will go toward the travel costs associated with the program. As part of our year, we spend a month in London at the Globe theatre, and we also have a showcase in New York in the spring time. Also, depending on prices and conversion rates, it might help me be able to come home for Christmas.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I am extremely grateful to have gone after. What these donations really help do, is lower the cost of loans I will have to take out to make this dream happen. Which means when I get home, I get to still be an actor, a theatre artist, and will have the ability to pursue other dreams. I plan to give back to my community, by creating art that challenges, uplifts, and gives voices to those who may not know they have one.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story,
Danielle
