Jason was diagnosed with an untreatable and fatal disease two years ago. ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) has slowly robbed him of his muscles, ability to walk, lift his arms, and lead the life he envisioned. Along with Jason, our family has made the collective decision to embrace life and the days that remain.
I recently left my career to become his full-time caregiver and focus on being the parent that our two young sons need while they navigate their dad's disease.
We look forward to building memories together while we can.
The other night while talking to Jason, I said to him that it had just hit me that we would all be home this summer when school let out and wouldn't it be incredible to drive to Alaska and take in the scenery while you can still breath independently and have the core and neck strength to look out the window? He agreed and even insisted. I worried that it was just a crazy dream to embark on this journey.
I was even more surprised that when I mentioned it to our family and friends, they seemed to agree that we should pursue it.
We would love some help to make our way to Alaska and back home again. There are many ways this can be achieved. Cash to help with expenses, gas cards, gift certificates to restaurants, hotel points... We also encourage people to join us along the way.
