I'm a Masters student at California State University, Long Beach. I plan on obtaining an Artist Diploma after I finish my degree this May. The Artist Diploma is a type of performance certificate that will help me further develop as a solo clarinetist, and to embark on an international performing career. Each school requires traveling to their campus for an audition. These auditions will take place in Denver, Montreal and the United Kingdom. However, each trip costs hundreds of dollars to attend. This is an example of how costly it can get in order to build my experience, and as an independent grad student, it gets harder and harder to keep up with these costs. Receiving your donations will help me continue the next step in my career with limited financial burden.

Latest Update

My next performance was Giacomo Miluccio's Rhapsodie for solo clarinet. I like how this piece shows the roots of Italian dramaticism with a modern spin. It's kind of like me, because I don't consider my style to be very traditional nor very experimental. It's a mixture of both. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-s0RygDNAM

My next performance was the fourth movement from Brahms's first sonata? This sonata was added to round out my program in order to showcase my abilities through all kinds of musical styles, periods and forms. I like to think of this piece as a representation of the other half of my goal while obtaining my Masters, which is to maintain my versatility as a well-rounded clarinetist, and I think I did that. https://youtu.be/ghMgihEFFvo

The third performance from my recital was Sarasate's Carmen Fantasie. It's originally written for violin and orchestra but this transcription by Nicholas Baldreyou adapts it to the clarinet's range and technical abilities. I wanted to include an opera fantasy in my program because it has contributed so much to my musical identity. I want to specialize in opera fantasies because I love how much drama they need to deliver a substantial performance. They've challenged me beyond my capabilities and I came out stronger in the end because of them. This was my first time performing the Carmen Fantasie, so it's not my best performance ever but I think it's good for my first try. I'll be playing it again in my Masters recital this April. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqPozjxK9aM

The second performance from my recital was Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie. It was the first solo piece I chose to play in my undergrad without help from anyone. This piece is significant to me because it was the first piece in which I noticed a development in my artistry. It stands as one of my most confident interpretations to this day because it not only illustrates the piece's impressionist style, it illustrates the style in my own way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pozF63JOcM&feature=youtu.be

Here's the first piece from the recital, the first section from Nielsen's Clarinet concerto. I love playing this piece because it allows me to be the most dramatic. I worked on the whole thing for 14 months before my first performance of it in my senior recital. Ever since then it has become a staple of my repertoire. It represents how much energy I always put into every piece I play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtKQWq8UTVY

My recital on January 27th was a success! Thank you to all who came! With all your contributions I have achieved up to 70% of my fundraising goal. Coming up next, I'll be posting recordings of my recent performances. It's only fair for viewers to view a glimpse of what I've worked on and what I hope to achieve. Stay tuned!
