Hey everyone,
Nubia here... As many of you know, I love to travel and curate new experiences. However, between working full time, going to school part time and raising two wonderful kids as a single parent, I was feeling unfilled and needed to do something different. In the beginning of 2017, I was laid off from my job of three years and instead of looking at the glass half empty, I decided to take it as the glass is half full.
I love to travel and want to plant myself somewhere abroad and immerse myself in the culture, learn a new language and take you all with me virtually. I am not going on a vacation, I am packing up and moving abroad for a year on a budget of $600 a month for food, transportation and accommodations, excluding any extras. That's $7200 for the year. While in SE Asia I have plans to get my TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), this program cost approximately $1300 USD for a 4 week program. In addition, travel insurance for a year is roughly $750 four decent coverage.
Many friends have reached out to say "we need to go out and have drinks before you go "... If each friend put that $10 for a drink into my plumfund. It is a better use of the money and I would use the fund towards the TEFL program and insurance. That's a little more than $2000 that I wouldn't have to take from my savings.
So as I head off to South East Asia, I am reaching out to my friends and family to ask for your support to assist with my travels abroad.
Thanks, see you in Asia!
Nubia
