With this pictured tsuba, Kevin Adams (of Kevin Adams Fine Metal Arts) received the Gold Prize in this year's NBSK Craftsman's Competition in Tosogu.

Please support him with his travel and accommodations to Tokyo, Japan to receive the award in person. Any overages I'm sure Kevin will put towards any tools, gear and/or training to further his already awesome sauce! Maybe food too and/or gifts for Sensei's Sensei?

Latest Update

The trip has come and gone, and Kevin is safely back in Toronto! The goal has been met and exceeded thanks to everyone's wonderful generosity! Kevin was kind enough to document his adventures on his metalwork page: https://www.facebook.com/KevinAdamsFineMetalArts/?fref=ts As I understand it, this campaign will remain open to donations for an additional month, for those that were late to the party - and would still like to donate to the cause. Kevin was able to purchase some vital materials and tools while he was there. If you would like to help contribute to next year's work, now is a great time to do so. All the gold, silver, copper, and other materials come from his own pocket, and cannot be recuperated via a sale until the tsuba is returned after being in the crafter's showcase for a while longer. Thank you all for your support!

Over the night, Kevin arrived safely to a VERY humid Narita Airport in Tokyo and checked in to the hotel. With a 13 hour time difference ahead - he's probably fast asleep!

It's really happening! Kevin is riding the jet plane, on his way to Tokyo! Just a quick reminder that the campaign will cease this coming Saturday, the 18th - in order for final contributions to trickle in as they may! Word has it he will be meeting Sensei's Sensei and his metalwork lineage classmates, and have an opportunity to bring back some critical materials that are hard to obtain for future works. If you are considering contributing in these final days - please do not hesitate to do so. It will go towards the next wave of crafting he has planned and every little bit helps! Thank you so much for the contributions thus far! We've met and exceeded our very modest goal!

An update from Kevin: I've been doing a lot of thinking about the unanticipated generosity of the donors in this crowdfunding campaign. As I mentioned before, I never really know how to respond to such things, and just a "thank you" doesn't seem to be enough. I've decided that I need to acknowledge you all in a more meaningful way. So how about this: once the tsuba returns from Japan later this summer, I intend to get some high-resolution photography done (something I had planned to do anyways) - but I think what I'll do is also get some fine art prints done of the front and back. The details still need to be worked out, but these prints would be mailed out to the donors as a token of my appreciation for making it possible to take this trip. How does that sound? The campaign is also running for one more week. Thank you so much for the support.

Quick update: Kevin has booked the major expenses (airfare and accommodations). Even though we have met and surpassed our modest goal, if you were wanting to contribute - and did not, every little bit helps. Tokyo is one of THE most expensive cities in the world. Thank you in advance to those who have contributed so far. Thanks also to those who choose to support Kevin in the coming days. Reminder: The campaign will end on the 18th! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Lets make it $2500!!!

<FROWN> It seems that life moved the goalpost for us. In the same time that we reached our goal, our National airline has boosted airfare over $500+!! What was a $1100-ish flight is now a $1600-ish flight. Thank you for those that have already donated. For those on the fence, we still need your help! I am reluctantly changing the goal to $2000.

In slightly over 24 hours since the launch of this campaign, we have reached our very modest goal!!! Thank you all to the contributors! If you've only just discovered the fundraising initiative, please feel free to contribute still... Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities on the planet, and our weak Canadian dollar isn't helping. I will leave the goal post where it is, but please help out if you can. Anything past this will be put to use I'm sure. Transit $$?? Incidentals... Gold / silver / other metals to alloy for next year's piece is also on Kevin's agenda no doubt. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
