Please help me pay my medical bills and my “underwater” house. I am 64, the widow of an Army vet & I need a hand up. It is humbling but I am asking for your support, and your prayers.
While he was alive my husband and I were living in Kansas City, MO. He lobbied for us to buy a house to rent out for our retirement. As career Army, he was handy and promised to take care of all repairs. The Drill Sergeant in him could be persuasive so I agreed. Unfortunately in 2002, my wonderful hubby was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and died in 2003.
Having family nearby helped. Then for financial reasons both my kids decided to move to Atlanta, GA and begged me to move with them. Wanting to watch my beautiful little grandbabies grow up, I did just that.
My “investment” property has been a nightmare. I have had tenants who stopped paying and I had to pay them to leave. I have paid property managers who pocketed my money and did nothing. About 6 months ago I received a notice from the City that it was going to fine me $1,000.00 if the yard was not cleaned. I immediately took money out of my meager savings, and paid for the clean-up.
With the help of family, I have managed to keep current with mortgage payments but my savings and their assistance are spent and I am at wits end.
Recently I received an unexpected offer to purchase the house for $10,000 but I still owe $21,300 to the bank. The bank tells me I can’t accept the offer but if I don’t pay them the remainder it will destroy my credit - probably for the rest of my life.
To top it all off, this past year I had 2 back surgeries that, thank God, relieved the excruciating pain. But the result is I now walk with a cane.
I am actively looking for work to pay off the staggering expenses my insurance did not cover. I am continuously sending out my resume - so far no luck.
I know I’m not the only person experiencing difficulty. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, God bless you!
