I'm not sure if I can explain this with all the emphasis it needs, but here goes. My son is 28 years old & is currently a college student. Back in high school, he was a stellar JROTC cadet and therefore decided to join the Army National Guard to help with his upcoming college career. After completing basic training and advanced MP training, he was accepted by a very prestigious military academy....One year later, his MP unit was deployed to Iraq. My son was forced to postpone his college education to serve his country for one year in this war torn country. As I thank our God every day, he suffered no physical injuries, but with the things he saw & experienced during this one short year, he came home with the crippling crutch of PTSD. It caused a lot of lost time & many tears, but he basically self-healed due to some pretty inadequate medical care at the local VA hospital. I'd like to think that I helped him through a lot of this, but he is a strong boy & although knocked to his knees, he is still standing - stronger & stronger every day. I could praise him for hours, but here's his situation: He has now started over; back in college, starting over at a community college for now. He's majoring in Psychology and his goal is to work with other military PTSD sufferers to help them as he helped himself. As a side note, in his very first semester back in school, he made the Dean's list! (I know I may be bragging, but he really is brilliant; with a very high tested IQ!) He is using his GI Bill benefits, but that is only 50% assistance. He is taking full time classes & trying to also work full time to make up the other 50% tuition. Every day, I see that this is quite a struggle & my husband & I are only able to help him with housing at this point. I don't know exactly how much this remaining tuition will be, but with all the extra expenses he has, (such as books & lab fees) I know that he needs help desperately. I see that his struggle is difficult & I know he's grown into a strong man, but he just needs a little help. I wish I could help him more, but I thought maybe I could get help with this in this way. Will you please see it in your heart to help him?
