My God-Mother, Lynn, has been in my life as long as I can remember. She has also been helping the poor and infirmed just as long. Lynn is a shining beacon in my life and in the lives of countless others -- she's as close to an actual saint as I think you will ever meet in your life.

This campaign is my hope of giving back to her, in a very small way, a bit of the love and comfort that she has shown to so many. Her plan is to visit Catholic Worker communities in Europe and North America, spending several weeks at one of them to continue editing a book that she has written about her many years of service to the poor and those in need.

A little about Lynn and what she does :

On January 15, 1991, Mary House (a home where Lynn currently lives with and helps critically and terminally ill adults until they are financially and medically stable) accepted its first guest in Mary House of Hospitality. Since then, they have hosted nearly 1700 guests. In 2001, they began to serve the homeless with critical and terminal illnesses: i.e., they would die without housing because they needed rest, good nutrition, and a calm environment, OR they would die a miserable death outdoors.

Mary House remains the ONLY FREE shelter in Texas for adults with these conditions. Many, many people in the wider community offer their services to cook, clean, garden, and be in fellowship with our sick and dying brothers and sisters.

Lynn has only been on sabbatical once in what will be 25 years by 2016: for six weeks she went on a retreat at a silent retreat house of prayer. Other than that, she has been working working 24/7.

Lynn's own words: "I am having the time of my life as I live with people who either are getting better and becoming independent, or dying with dignity and comfort. And the fellow travelers along the way -- i.e. those who work alongside me and other Catholic Workers -- are a real bonus!"

Please help fund Lynn's trip.
