Greetings! I've setup this plumfund for Share the music ! When I was young, I heard my first Capitol “A” Blues Roll. I was instantly hooked. These rolls are rare! They are played by some of the best and almost unknown African-American pianists of 1920's Chicago. Immediately I sought them out and began to preserve them. Since that time I have acquired a very large collection of Capitol style “A” blues rolls along with a healthy amount of Capitol style “A” Popular rolls. When I got married, I dragged my wife into the task as well… all the while hoping that we would be able to acquire a piano to play these rolls on. Thirty years later and in our late forties, even though we both have fairly successful careers, we just don’t make enough money to purchase a restored instrument. Some friends of mine suggested putting together a fundraiser to raise money to purchase a restored “A” roll piano for us. With an “A” roll piano we will be able to record and document the rolls on video playing the way they did and make them available to the general public. We have heard many of the rolls in our collection and they are worth sharing and preserving, at least we think so.
We have a very small house (surrounded by “A” rolls) and we are eager to obtain a restored cabinet piano, preferably a Seeburg Style L. The instrument must be of high quality for archival purposes.
