Hi Family and Friends!!
Thank you for visiting our Family Leave Registry! Kelsey, Jonathan, and I are so excited to welcome Baby Dixon! We can't wait to meet him!
As many of you know, I had a summer of career blessings, including getting licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and getting a new job as a School Social Worker. Eventually, these accomplishments will provide me with the flexibility to be available to our children unlike any other fulltime job, including summers off, no weekends or on-call work, and hopefully one day I will start my own business. As I said... EVENTUALLY! Right now though, I am a new employee with very limited leave, and find myself ineligible for FMLA, Short Term Disability, and will likely have to use leave without pay for 10 out of 12 weeks of Maternity Leave. During that time, I will also have to pay the full premium (employee and employer portions) of our family's health insurance. To top it off, Kelsey does not have the benefit of paternal leave either. This makes for some tough decisions. Motherhood is something you all know I take very seriously, and believe in the importance of bonding and nesting with newborns as critical to infant development. It is a deeply precious and spiritual time for our family that I am afraid will be lost without a real maternity leave. This is why Kelsey and I made the decision to also set up a Plumfund maternity leave registry.
Essentially, you can also bless us with the gift of time with Baby Dixon! If you would prefer, in addition to or as an alternative to a traditional shower gift, you can contribute to a fund specifically set up to cover costs of maternity leave and our transition as "new" parents again. We have calculated a goal amount based on our income and what leave days I have, as well as the cost of insurance. That is how we arrived at the amount you see on our registry. Any amount is helpful and will be considered a huge blessing to our family. It will cover costs of our houshold, health insurance, needs for Baby Dixon, and start up costs for childcare when I return to work. Essentially, it will allow me to take a full maternity leave with less stress, rather than return to work right at 6 weeks. That would be amazing for our family!!!
